It seems now a days when ever I try and use interact search all I get is a list of builds that happen to contain my search terms, but often not the help I'm looking for.
Try for example searching for
"image playlist sort"
For this reason I wonder if it would be better to move build threads into a separate child board which defaults to non searchable?

Agreed!

It probably won't change. The search mechanism built into the forum software stinks, and is likely to continue to stink. The forum's software (SMF, from YaBB) has fallen far behind the BB Forum curve.
Use google instead. See the last three replies here:

The only problem is that it won't search the beta area.

To be fair, SMF 2.0 Final was released last June. I don't know where it is on the curve, but it seems considerably better than 1.1.

I've never had a problem with the search. It works fine for me. Unfortunately the build posts just contain just about every search term you could ever search for.
While you can mess around with the search subtract feature I just feel it would be better if they were in a separate board!

Perhaps moving the build notes to the wiki, and just placing a link in the sticky.
