Title: MC 17 stutters then freezes
Post by: prufrock on March 27, 2012, 03:57:50 pm
Have had MC17 for about a month and it regularly stutters on audio and video. Screen goes black and I have to reboot the computer. Only does it with JRiver. Anyone got any ideas?

Try adjusting the buffer for audio up or down.

Set video to Red October Standard.

Update to the latest build.  It's at the top of this board.

Took the buffering out to max, downloaded the latest MC17 and set vid to standard. Just crashed a minute ago playing a VIDEO_TS file. Will give DVD a miss for a while and concenrtate on the audio. It makes me think its my machine because there doesnt seem to be many other people having this problem. Running Win 7 on good hardware. I Just stress tested it for 6hrs with no failures. All drivers are up to date. Try the buffering again I guess.

This is all looking involved and time consuming. All I want to do is play my music through the computer. Anyone?  Would a MAC/ itunes be a better bet for someone like me who is time poor?

Get audio working, then move on to video.

What's your audio hardware?  Can you try a different device?

We recommend working through this guide.  It should take about 10 minutes:

Try setting the buffer down.

Just at the desktop atm, doing all the ripping. When finished I will use a new dedicated ultabook with the soundsystem. The desktop uses NVIVIA and Realtek. Never had a problem with it before. Have tried taking the buffering back. Will see if that works. I have a feeling the problem is with this desktop, but dont know where.

Well, I found the solution to the stuttering/black screen problem. Turned out to be Firefox. Now using Google Chrome and having no further problems. Chrome seems to be a fair bit quicker too.
