Is there someway I can use a rule to use only the first Genre in the list when it downloads the data?
At the moment we get Action,Drama, etc
The way I have my Movies set up if I leave as is I get the movie multiple times under all those Genre
I want to list under just the first name.

Configure the view to use the expression
listitem([Genre],;0]
instead of the library field Genre. This will be under Items to Show > Video > Genre in Theater view.
-
Sorry, how do I do that?

I think the list in TMDB is in alphabetical order, so the first genre in the list may be the least relevant. I think you'll end up very disappointed as almost everything will end up under action or adventure, even if it's a comedy, sci-fi etc.

I will have to check them all.

I wouldn't bother trying to extract a single-value genre from a [Genre] filled by TMDb Genres. If you want a single-value genre, create your own using a custom field. For the sake of clarity, let's call that [Category]. It might be helpful to consider what 'category' values you would like to use first, but it's not essential. In a panes view that includes [Genre] and [Category] panes, select a [Genre], decide which of your Categories those movies belong in, and tag them accordingly. Start with ones you find easy. You might decide, for example, anything with [Genre]=[Romance] should have [Category]=[Romance], regardless of whether it's also a drama or a comedy. It doesn't really matter. If when you get to [Genre]=[Comedy] you decide a movie is better categorized as a Comedy than a Romance, change it. Or you might decide to add a 'Romantic Comedy' category. When you're done, your movies will be assigned to categories that make sense to you.

I know I can do that but that sort of defeats the automation somewhat. I would have to go elsewhere to look up the Genre.

There is no way to automatically reduce multiple genres to one single value. The easiest solution would be to simply get used to selecting movies based on multiple genres. If you have many movies, and find it difficult to select movies by genre in Theatre View, try including [Genre] twice in the same view. Then you can, for example, select 'Romance' and use the second one to choose between 'Drama' and 'Comedy'. That might be more effective than wasting time trying to figure out whether such movies are romance, drama, comedy, romantic-comedy, dramatic-romance, ...

How is that done when tagging in standard view

I'm not sure why you would want or need to while tagging, but... If your [Genre] pane has 'Matching' set to 'Match All', then you can select multiple values in the pane to see only movies with all those genres.
-
I dont know what I am doing wrong but if I set Genre to match all, My sub categories do not show up in theater view.
I have Categories Movie Sub categories MN MW Kids and Classics then Genre.
