An old yet trusty stalwart has served us well, but now it is time to retire it:
Shuttle SN25P AMD Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra Barebone
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 2.4GHz
GeForce 6600GT 128MB
Corsair XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
2 x 250Gb HD
What would JRiver do with it?
-
Convert it into a NAS.
-
Asterisk VoIP server.
-
Cookie jar.

Ok, so little interest.
Who has, and what is, the best reason for needing this system?
-
not sure why you would think anyone would have an interest.

Wouldn't that make someone a nice dedicated HTPC box?
Convert it into a NAS.
I think this is what I need, but am not sure what to do about it!
I want a box that can take, say up to eight drives and is as small as possible. It would sit somewhere out of the way, behind the TV perhaps, storing all the media files and running MC, serving the library and files to the desktop, laptop, Gizmo and HTPC.
Currently, the desktop is the server, which can be a pain if they're using the HTPC and I need to reboot the desktop...

Ok, well this little experiment fell flat. I was curious to see what folks would read from the ambiguity. Since there seemed to be no interest here, I'll donate it to a local school.

that sounds like a good Idea, but they may not want it ether (for many reasons).
I think putting it up on eBay may be an alternative.

There's a great organization I use frequently, call the National Cristina Foundation. They place systems / components with local school children for families less fortunate, or use items in media rooms, etc. They love systems like this (they have techs that can build/rebuild anything). My local contact was thrilled with the last two boxes of goodies...
