Title: Suddenly unable to play video [solved]
Post by: Trumpetguy on April 04, 2012, 06:44:55 am
For some reason, video playback all of a sudden stutters continuously. MadVR reports clock deviations around 60%. I have tried RO standard and HQ, same thing. Tested on mkv containing bluray and dvd rips. Movies are usually >20000 kbps, and the player now ends up at less than 10000 kbps.

I have not changed my system (to my knowledge) since last week, the only difference is that it has been shut down a couple of days.

MC must see a bottleneck somewhere, but where? VLC has no problems playing the exact same files.

EDIT: topic text
EDIT: I have tested 17.0.106 which worked before. Same problem now.

BTW, the computer is more than capable (benchmark >3500) and have had no problems like this in the past.

Please try Red October Standard.

Please try Red October Standard.

As stated in first post, I have tried RO standard also. Same problem.

Now I also tried playback directly from the system SSD. Same problem there also.

Again, I have reported a problem that is my own fault... it may be relevant for others, though.

The cause was use of ASIO and that the audio clock was switched off. I was just ripping some bd movies and testing the results with the sound devices turned off. I have an external Lynx DAC, and audio uses the clock in this device. Obviously, there was no clock available. As MC uses ASIO and VLC probably uses DirectSound, the two players behaved differently (VLC did not stutter). Switcing my DAC on solved everything.

Sorry, I missed that.

Anyway, glad to hear it's working.

The audio controls the clock, so if your audio isn't working right, it's going to get confusing.
