Is this the change that you're describing?
17.0.115 (3/27/2012)
5. Changed: When toggling zones, Playing Now views are only switched to the new zone if they're in the current tab, split view, and not locked (so having multiple splits each showing a different Playing Now works nicely).
-
it is equal what view is active
view2 Playing now - do not change
in earlier version
my view2 was always locked
and when i change the zone view2 show me the playing now list from the new zone
-
mc 17.0.103
toggle zone
it is ok
it is equal what view is active
view2 Playing now - change to the new zone
-
mc 17.0.106
toggle zone
it is ok
it is equal what view is active
view2 Playing now - change to the new zone
the problem starts here
mc 17.0.115
toggle zone
it is not ok
it is equal what view is active
view2 Playing now - change not

I'm not sure if I like the change made with MC 17.0.115. I see the benefits but I have to change my way of using MC. Right now it just disturbs me but I hope "one day" I'll learn how to use it.
Back to your point:
What you are talking about is not a bug it's a feature. With the change in MC 17.0.115 a locked view never get's changed by clicking anything in the tree. In earlier versions of MC a locked view never got changed except when it contained a playing now view. You liked this behavior (as I did). But the new design is much more logical.
So: I see your problem and I personally would like to see an option to get back the old behavior. But as with this change MC behaves much more logical (because a locked view now is truly locked) it's a good decision to make and keep this change (without an option for us getting back the nice old illogical way).

toggle zone
it is not ok
[...]
view2 Playing now - change not
With the knowledge of what they changed, this is ok! Your view 2 is locked (as you said in your first post in this topic) and whatever you click in the tree: view 2 will keep its locked state.
I hope I could clear this up a bit...

The new behaviour is very confusing. There really should be a way to show the Playing Now of the current zone in a split. Logical or not, surely more users would want to do that than have "multiple splits each showing a different Playing Now." (What is that—something those with multiple-monitor displays do?)
Displaying the Playing Now Overview in a split might be a good alternative for some—if it were a little more flexible. If the container for each zone could be resized (i.e., with the aspect of the display portion being maintained, so making it larger would simultaneously make the display larger and the list longer), it could be adjusted to make better use of the limited space in a split.

I TOTALLY agree with that! View weeks ago I suggested a small step to this direction:
Actually each item in overview takes much more space as needed. On small monitors there is no real "overview", because some scrolling is needed when there are several zones.

If the Show/Hide button would be moved to the same line as the zone name, it would save at least half of the space.

I've used a few days in order to understand - a new feature.
i search and found in the basement my old audio selector switches, 4 outputs 1 input, with whom I have previously changed the zones (reciever or Monitor). a lucky for me that I have not thrown away.
I think the quick access to the playing now list is important if you use multiple zones.
What it brings me when I switch between 2 zones and do not see the playlist.
several zones - Lock the view ..... that's a feature
lock the view playing now - change the zone - and i see anyway the playlist from the new zone ...... that's a feature ...... a milestone
My proposal - a view for the zones only one allowed change playing now - is locked - we can show it or not
