What I want to do is to change my collection of flac to ALAC (apple lossless), but I want to do it without losing the date imported. Is this possible?
I have a full backup of all my music and library so I can experiment
-
Using the Mode 'Replace original file on disk and in library' doesn't change [Date Imported] or any other library data.
-
Thank you rick.ca, where can I find that mode/option ?
-
I did not know MC would convert to ALAC.... but anyway, Select the files to convert then --> Tools --> Library Tools --> Convert Format --> Options --> Mode --> then select "Replace Original file on disk and in library" is where you find the option you are after.
-
Ok, so you need to convert them with MC to be able to use that option??
What if I already have them converted, in the same location and name, only ext differs?
-
If you only want to change the "extension" in MC to the new files then you could use:
Select Item to change --> tools --> library tools --> rename, move, & copy files then
1) change the drop down box to "Update database to point to new location (no file rename, move, or copy)" and
2) Uncheck "Directories" and "Filename"
3) Check "Find & Replace" with "Find What" = "FLAC" and "Replace With" = the new extension
YMMV so give it a test on one file, then a few etc etc.... This is very quick and it will just update the data base to the new files. You may then want to "update tags" from library to ensure the tags in the data base are copied to the ALAC files

OK, thanks to rick.ca and jmone I succeed with the task :), just additionally to jmone's instructions, you need to change the file type from flac to m4a in the tags section
