Hi im using HDMI out from an Asus M4A785TD-V EVO to an Onkyo TX-SR577 receiver.
I have set bitstreaming to HDMI but I either get no sound or just stereo.
Have I done something wrong?
Works ok with 7mc and ffdshow.
Cheers

Under Video in MC options, did you check bitstreaming?
In DSP Studio, turn off all processing.
-
Yep bit streaming set to hdmi in video options and all processing turned off in dsp processing.

ive done a bit more tinkering, i changed the audio output format to wasapi and my films seem to passthrough dolby ok now but my mp3 cd rips dont play :-/

Use WASAPI Event Style, not WASAPI, if possible.
See the Audio Setup topic in our wiki. Start here:

films nor music plays with wasapi event style, the wiki says start with direct sound, that plays my music ok but i only get stereo from films
-
If you go to Control Panel/Sounds, and check the properties of the device you're using, there are some tests. Can you get surround sound there?
-
no just stereo
-
Then it is probably driver related. If you don't get surround sound there, you won't get it in any player.
-
really? so how comes it works with wasapi selected or if i use wmc and ffdshow?

I seem to have fixed this now, went to Control Panel > Sounds > HDMI Output > Properties > Advanced, and ticked both exclusive mode boxes.
Now using Direct Sound I can play my music in all channel stereo and my films in dolby.
