Unable to find any channels when scanning in MC17.
Scans for a while, doesnt find any channels and then closes the scanning window.
Have searched the forums and tried a few things like making sure 7mc isnt running, and stopping a couple of 7mc services before scan.
Nova-DT working fine in 7mc.
Can upload logs if needed.
Cheers.

Nova-DT again :(
Please do provide a log. If it is too large to attach here, email it to me. yaobing at jriver dot com

i wondered if this was a problem with my hardware!
i really want to like j-river but haven't had much luck so far.
log emailed to you.
thanks.

I'm having the same issue with my Nova-DT. I thought it might be related to signal strength, as I know the reception is a bit weak, but I can watch on Windows Media Centre.
Attached is a log. I am trying to get this working in New Zealand.
Cheers

Recently another user also reported problem with this device.
A while ago, someone had a problem with the device, I made a small change to fix it. Now I wonder if that change caused a problem for you guys. Before I try reverting the change I would like you guys to confirm that you are using the latest device drivers.
You two have similar error (occurring at the same line of code, but having different error code - one is "device is busy", the other is "unexpected error").
-
Just had a quick look on the net and i cant find any more drivers for the Nova, i guess im using the driver that was on the disk.
Went to Device Manager and checked driver properties, it says Version-4.3.27240.0 Date-28/08/2009 it will be interesting to see what version Flyingsparks is using.

I'm using the same one

You two either have slightly different hardware, or slightly different driver (or maybe not, I am not sure):

Possibly different hardware. There are three versions. I have the Nova-T 500. The Nova-DT includes the diversity antenna I believe. I know I had issues with drivers when I first installed it. I think I found a newer driver, so I will try that when I get a chance.
-
Ive tried a new dll sent to me from Yaobing but still having the same problem
-
Actually looking at the driver I found, it doesn't appear to be the right one for my hardware. I actually have the Nova T 500 (99xxx). Looking into the drivers refreshed my memory a bit. The Diversity model goes by Nova-DT, Hauppauge actually list them as different models. I remember the pain that I went through to get the drivers working correctly for windows media centre. That works well now, so I am hesitant to mess with the drivers. Yaobing, Do you want me to try that dll for my hardware?
-
Yaobing, Do you want me to try that dll for my hardware?
Yes, since I have no better ideas for now. Email me so I can reply with the dll attached.
-
looks like i may have found some newer drivers here:
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/support/support_all.html?prod=30 (http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/support/support_all.html?prod=30)
im a bit worried about trying them as at the moment this is working in 7mc and i could end up with no working tv at all but hopefully a restore point will save me if needed
-
I am a bit confused by Hauppauge's naming of their products. The (internal) "friendly name" of your tuners is "Nova-DT DVB-T Tuner (Dev1 Path0)", but all I can find on Hauppauge's web site are "WinTV-Nova-TD stick", "WinTV-Nova-T stick" and "WinTV-Nova-TD 500".
All of you had trouble scanning for channels. I wonder if you would be able to play a channel. Do you know the parameters of a DVB-T channel in your area? If you do, you can manually create a channel in MC and try playing it.
-
Harley Softail,
I split your posts to a different thread (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=71584.msg483422#msg483422)as yours is a different problem.
-
ok im fixed, the short story is i reinstalled the existing driver, the long story in case thats not what fixed it is i...
installed a new driver from the link above (had to force windows to use it as it wasnt verified)
scanned but no luck
changed from the dll Yaobing sent me back to the original
scanned but no luck
tried tv in 7mc - didnt work
rolled back driver and now tv working in both programs
flyingsparks can you try this and let us know? if it works for you I'll mark this thread as solved.
one more question though, how do i order the guide by channel number?
-
one more question though, how do i order the guide by channel number?
That is currently not possible. The guide is not very user-configurable. It uses channel name to sort.
Some users get around this by adding channel number in front of each channel name. We do that automatically for ATSC channels, but not for DVB-T channels because I do not know the logic of DVB-T channel numbers. In my code there is a function that is supposed to get UK logical channel numbers, but I am not sure it actually gets called.
-
So lock_stock, what did you end up doing? Rolling back to your original driver?

You will need to add the number in front after you have done the guide matching, otherwise the guide channel names won't match.
Nick.

Nick.
That is because I assumed there is no channel number in front, and made a simple comparison when doing guide-channel match. If I am able to add numbers in front of channel name at channel scan time, I will be able to also modify my guide matching code to take care of the situation.
Yes, if you manually add the numbers now, you should make sure you do the guide match first. Thanks for the tip.

Any step forward with channel scan issues, win nova t-500, and the usb version? From the other now locked thread, two different units with two seperate up to date drivers from hauppages website same outcome, no scanned channels:-(

Have you tried l0ck_st0ck's approach?

from day one to my knowledge only used one driver, same as the one on hauppages website, so nothing to roll back to, also both hardware tuners work fine in 7mc?

Just reinstall the same driver. What l0ck_st0ck did was to try installing a new driver, and then roll back, which fixed the problem. That indicates that there might have been some sort of corruption in the driver that was fixed by installing a new driver, and then rolling back which may be thought of as doing a re-installation of driver.

Ok, set windows to not auto update/install drivers.
uninstalled device, install driver, reboot, rescan hardware, install ok, reboot - run jriver mc17 - no scan. :'(
Now heres the interesting part, while i had my mates usb twin tuner stick, i installed said device onto my laptop, installed jriver mc17 (which has never been installed on here). And again on tv scan no channels were found? :'(
So two different machines, two different hardware setups, two fresh instals, still no jriver channels. :'(
HELP, ?
-
I'm still having issues. Tried installing the new driver, and then rolling back, no joy. But it is still working in windows media centre.
-
Yaobing,
Is there some programming 'hook' you can implement to completely 'reset' the tuners? Hopefully such an action may steal focus of the tuners away from other programs like Mediaportal and 7MC. This may help troubleshoot.
SBR
-
SBR,
No, there is no reset that we can do. The user has to try updating/reinstall driver, reboot, etc.
Flyingsparks and The Holy Gav,
Can you manually create a channel and try playing it? I wonder if it will behave better than scanning.

if you point me in the direction of finding the:
Network Id
TSID
Audio PID
Video PID Service ID
Original NID
Bandwidth
etc etc etc
For say english BBC1
then gladly ill manually set a channel up and test it.

I had huge trouble finding these on the net. Which transmitter do you tune to?
If your card works with some programs, try DVB Viewer - the free version. Get that to tune and get the info from its tuning menu.

Holy Bat Show Robin ;D
Yep, Downloaded dvb viewer, still a bit of guess work in manual data inputting though, just kept adding info till it worked!
I now have bbc 1, yes live and watching, woo hoo, please tell me i dont have to manually configure the 70+ stations though >:(
How do i get the tv guide/live tv icon to show in theater view?
I take it there is still work being done on a workable auto scan set up?
So its not a driver issue then, dvb viewer installs and works fine!
Super regards in all the help so far though, i can almost taste the cake :D

Finally we are getting some progress here. I guess it is good news. This device probably does not like somethings we do in channel scanning. The bad news is I am in the dark as to what those things are. I will have to try changing things a bit at a time.
Of course we do not expect you to manually create all your channels.
-

"Guide" is a default item under Video in Theater View. You have to set up guide in Standard View first.
-
Any more heads up on the development of a solution for this tv scan issue?
regards
Gav
-
Sorry, I have not made any progress on this front.
-
Progress with a capital P:-)
downloaded dll files copy and overwrote original files in respective files, ran scan no joy, went back and deleted suggested reg key, shutdown pc, reboot and hey presto scan ran and completed with all tv stations found.
When running in theater view tv shows stations came up with no tv signal, so again, shutdown and reboot, tv channels now found ok.
So all in all superb effort on all your parts.
Occassionaly when using channel next on remote the screen hangs and you have to go ba km to guide and do an channel re select, channel acquire slower than winmc7, but all in all as a work in progress pleased, compliments to you.
regards
Gavin

Thanks for reporting back.
The channel scan fix will be in an upcoming build to be released in a few days.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the vagueness of this post (not helped by typing it on my phone in a busy place :)) but is it possible that whatever this fix does can have side effects?
I've been testing the latest build of MC17 on an office PC (win7 x64 Home Premium) using a Hauppauge HVR900 USB stick (DVB-T in the UK) and long story short, this same PC has been using the aforementioned tuner quite happily in both WMC and MediaPortal. I then installed MC17 and was unable to scan for channels (MC reported that it was unable to build the preview graph). I made sure that both WMC and MP TV services were disabled and rebooted prior to scanning but no luck.
The odd thing is I then discovered that the tuner no longer worked in either MP or WMC ?.
This happened to me before after installing and testing MC17 but I didn't put 2 and 2 together and just did a complete reinstall which restored WMC and MP functionality. Tonight I've left the PC doing a system restore back to a point prior to installing MC17 to see if that fixes the issue with the other applications. If it does I'll reinstall MC again test and then post logs.
In the meantime as I said, I'm not sure if this is related to the other issues/ fixes in this thread or not but I'm really curious as to whether this scenario sounds familiar to anyone?
I appreciate any comments and I'm willing to test anything :).
Thanks and all the best,
Wo0zy

Quick follow-up.
System restore didn't help so I removed all drivers for the HVR 900 and installed a spare HVR 900H I had laying around. I then reconfigured MediaPortal's TV server and tested successfully.
Next I reinstalled MC17 opened and then closed it (didn't attempt to configure TV at this point) and then re-tested MediaPortal. Sure enough, MediaPortal had stopped working again. By experimenting within the MP TV Server configuration I found that eventually it would start working again (I guess once MC has released the tuner??). This is the sequence of events
1. On first attempt after closing MC, MP TV server just hangs when attempting to preview a channel.
2. Re launch and try again a minute or so later and MP TV Server reports that there's no available tuner.
3. Keep trying for a few minutes and eventually MP claims that there's no signal.
4. Keep trying and eventually you are able to successfully preview a channel.
If it is MC "holding" the tuner for a period of time even when it isn't running (which makes sense), is there a service I can disable (or a process I can terminate) to test this theory???
Anyway, having established the above I thought I'd have another play with MC's TV so I disabled the MP TV Service, launched MC and attempted to configure with the new tuner. The good news is I no longer get the "graph" error mentioned above and MC started scanning :). The bad news is I left it for about half an hour and it didn't find any channels :(. Also when I attempted to cancel the scan MC hung solid and I had to force close it.
After a couple of attempts (with the same result) I then tried manually adding a channel (BBC One) and guess what......IT WORKS!! ;D.
The initial attempt to tune to it seemed to take an age but subsequent attempts are a lot quicker.
Now, here's the really odd thing. I then started another channel scan and it seems to be partially working. It's currently scanning "24 of 50" which doesn't seem correct and it's been sitting at "24" for about 10 minutes now but it's still the furthest I've managed to get.
So, no driver changes, reboots or anything. Simply by manually adding a channel and tuning to it prior to a channel scan seems to effect things for me.
I'll leave the scan running for a while longer and report the final result later.
Hope this is in some way helpful.
All the best,
Wo0zy
Edit: The scan didn't get any further and after canceling it I'm no longer able to tune to my manually added BBC One. There's something weird going on here :(.
Edit2: Restarted MC and I actually have a few channels from the scan listed. Successfully tuned to BBC One, tried another channel and MC locked up. So random.

If you only opened MC and then closed it, MC would not do anything related to TV. It will not load any TV tuner.
In order for any TV device to work in MC, MediaPortal TV Service must be disabled. It holds onto a tuner. Please disable MediaPortal TV service, and reboot before trying MC.

Hi yaobing,
Thanks for the reply. As per my first post all testing with MC17 was done with the MediaPortal TV Services disabled. I've even tried now with MP completely uninstalled. Also WMC services are not running.
I only mentioned my findings with MP because it's definately MC17 that causes issues once it's been installed.
Not to worry. I'll try another card (not Hauppauge perhaps ;D) and see if I can get anywhere if not I'll just wait it out.
Cheers,
Wo0zy
Edit: I've attached two logs which might be helpful. One is during a failed channel change attempt (MC hangs) between two of the limited number of channels found during my only semi successful scan. The second log was reset just prior to attempting another scan which caused MC to hang. In both cases MP is completely uninstalled and the system has just been rebooted. Hope they help.
