hello everyone, i just tried to play a CD w/Mediaplayer, and an error box came up saying my hardware does not accept a bitdepth of 64. But i have it set at 16!! I tried to adjust and change the setting, but no matter what the Mediaplayer thinks i have it set at 64!!!! Now it wont play anything and is useless to me, PLEASE HELP!!!
-
Have you tried to play a different CD?
-
yes it will play nothing now
-
Try changing the audio output mode in Options > Audio. DirectSound is a good starting point.
-
ok, i tried that, but there was no change. I have been using the ASIO setting since getting MC, and that was were it was when this problem developed. I do not understand how the software "thinks" it is still set at 64 if i can change the setting in the DSP studio. I have reset it and tried restarting my PC, tried various types of silver disk format variants, all to no avail. It simply states my hardware cannot handle that bit depth, which is correct, but i cannot get the program to "see" that change i make to the setting. The DSP studio does show and save changes i make, though. Will i end up re-installing the MC? If so please advise, thx

ASIO always takes 64-bit input:

So the error may just be your ASIO isn't working. Try DirectSound to see.

did not you read my last post?? i did try that, no change. whom do i need to see to have my problem figured out? i am running in circles here wasting my time trying to play silver disks on my PC. Do i need to find another player now? Did i waste my money on a program that will not support me?

Turn off all DSP.
-
ok, i removed MC and reinstalled, now it will play, but only on direct sound. I have been using ASIO since i first got MC and now it will not play in Kernel Streaming or ASIO. DO you think a driver may have failed or needs updating? So am i now stuck with lower quality playback? My Pc is a dell dim 2400 w/xp/sp3, thanks

Check the Audio Setup guide on the Wiki.
I'm going to move this to the MC17 board since that's what I think you're using.
Please tell us the full version you're using.

Media Center 16.0.181 is what i am using.
I turned off the DSP and now it will play in direct and kernel streaming, but still not ASIO. When i try to play in ASIO (with the DSP turned off) MC still says it cannot playback in 64 bits. I was able to use ASIO playback, with resampling since i first purchased MC, now i cannot.

You have an MC17 license. Please switch to MC17.

I just asked our system to send you the license.
-
really, that's weird, but ok!
-
ok same problem:
1) still says stuck at 64 bit
2) with DSP ON i can only use Direct
3) with DSP OFF i can also sue kernel streaming
4) still cannot use ASIO as when i first purchaed MC
i give up

You might reinstall your ASIO driver.
A lot of users depend on ASIO, and this is not a common report.

I contacted Dell and they updated my soundMAX driver, but when choosing ASIO output MC says "no ASIO devices detected", which i find hard to believe, as my OE soundcard is ASIO based. So i downloaded Driver Detective to double check and it says my audio drivers are fine. I wondered does WMP play sound via ASIO? Because that program does not ask what output to use. I have finally gotten MC to play both in Direct and Kernel Streaming now with 96Hz/24bit, but MC still thinks it is on 64 bit. I think i may have to dump the soundMAX OEM card for an aftermarket one. Sorry this had to be a painful process. I appreciate everyones help.
