I have 4 albums with the same name with disk 1, disk 2, disk 3 and disk 4 to distinguish between them. How do I add this in play doctor so it will choose all 4 alums and shuffle them?
-
What about setting a File rule that selects Albums that Starts with "Album name..."?

OK,
How do I do that while still playing music?
-
You can add new tracks to play doctor while it is playing, but not change its parameters.
To add tracks shuffled, select the tracks in some view, and select More Play Options... > Add (Shuffle).
-
However, manually adding tracks to the queue interrupts the Play Doctor. It will stop adding or removing tracks at that point.
-
I see, so it converts to a playlist at that point. Thanks.
-
Ok,
So now that I have stopped the music - How do I set the rule?
-
From Playing Now, for the desired zone, set Rules for files that can be included...
See attached.

Wouldn't Play (shuffled) (the selected album) be more effective than using Play Doctor?
-
Probably. But won't Play Doctor keep adding tracks randomly from those selected albums? So it would be an infinite, random rotation.

Yea, I guess your right. I just wanted to get some work in with Play Doctor.
I have as follows:
Media Sub Type starts with Audio
Then in the play doctor box I put in the album name. It gives me "Failed to start radio playback"
Then I put:
Media Type Starts with Audio
Album name in play doctor. Then it same thing. I did something and it gave me "only" all of disk 1.

Enjoy Great Speeches... Vol 1 to 5.

I put the exact same thing in. I only get all of (Disk 1). Do you think because I use ( ) that it doesn't work? Looks like it doesn't recognize the ( )
-
You want Media Type is Audio AND Album must start with the desired name (so, no parens - the default is AND).
Otherwise, either criteria would satisfy, so you'd get anything of type Audio (which is all of your audio library) as well as anything that starts with that Album name.
Something doesn't make sense about only getting 1 album, unless the other discs do not start with the same album name.

Media type is audio
Album starts with The best slow jams ever
I took out all the ( ) and I still get only all of disk 1

Now if I put an artist name in the PD box. It will bring up all disks with that artist on it. Which is correct.
-
Were you not hitting Play after setting the rules? Each time you change the rules, you need to hit Play to get the list generated.
The value you enter into the PD box is a seed value. But you don't need to enter a value there - the rules will dictate which (random) files will be selected.
-
I wish Play Doctor was a mode you could activate like repeat or shuffle. It would be a lot more versatile than the current iteration. The ability to add tracks to the queue without breaking the PD mode would be great, especially if PD used those tracks to steer future additions.

Yes, well, I suppose that's superior to sending four discs to PN shuffled and setting PN to repeat. After the third or fourth time through, one might notice the random sequence is the same each time. On the other hand, one might get annoyed with PD picking the same the same track too often or too soon again. Such a dilemma... ;D

AHHHH HAAAAA...
I left the PD box empty - hit play and bingo.. All Albums.
Thanks for your help MrC..
