Title: Fix Text File Association in MC
Post by: glynor on May 13, 2012, 10:55:00 am
I have a weird issue on my Server...

A long, long time ago I used Crimson Editor as my text editor of choice.  Development stopped on that application though, and I eventually switched to Notepad++ (which is awesome).

In Windows Explorer, my associations work right.  I can double click on a txt file and it opens in Notepad++.

In MC on the sever, when I double click on a txt file, it pops up an error message that it cannot find Crimson Editor's exe (because it has been uninstalled).  I can't get that to go away and switch to the actual file type association, seemingly no matter what I do.  I also can't find any other place (other than MC) where this happens.

Any suggestions?  What does MC go by when deciding what external application to use to open files like TXT, NFO, XML, etc?

What are the settings you have for Options > File Types > Data > Text Files?

I have a vague memory about Matt saying that Windows has more than one place that file associations are remembered.

Try removing the file association from Explorer.  Then, in Explorer, click on a txt file.  Windows should ask how you want to play the file.

That was it, of course.  Thanks!

I forgot you could do that, actually, but I knew there was something like it that MC was doing.
