Hi there as a regular user of Mc17 I'm wondering if you have any plans to integrate mc17 with lovefilm
Much as you have done with Netflix. Unfortunately for uk Netflix owners we cannot use Mc17
I know lovefilm have an Api available as another programmer wrote an app for Wmc
It would be great if this would be a possibility in the future
Keep up the great work

How popular is Lovefilm in the UK?

How popular is Lovefilm in the UK?
Quoted from wikipedia
In January 2012, LoveFilm announced that it had reached 2 million subscribers. It also claims over 70,000 titles, and over 4 million DVD, Blu-ray or Games rentals per month across five countries. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, LoveFilm has, in a few years, become the leading online DVD rental and streaming outlet in the UK and across Europe

I'm thinking of subscribing soon instead of physical disc rental. Having this integrated in MC would be awesome.

Love Film is also in Germany (where I live) a big one in association with Amazon. Love Film owns 2 millions members in Denmark, Germany, UK, Norway and Sweden. I use Love Film also as my home cinema provider.
-
And in Denmark where I live. Would be a great addition.

Generally love film have the market share in online streaming and rental by post. Netflix have only just started up over here so majority of people use love film.. Oh and they stream hd movies as well.
If JRiver added this functionality i think you would shift more licenses in the uk!!!
-
I use physical rentals from Lovefilm in Norway, and they have a really good library. I tested streaming from same company, and boy - crappy youtube home videos have better quality! May be ok for a 11" laptop, but no good for a projection screen. Is this any different in UK, Denmark and rest of Europe? MC integration would still be interesting if streaming quality improves, though.
-
Hah. Did not know about this one. If the quality is bad, I'm reluctant to using it. But if it's ok, then this would be a nice streaming addition to Theater view. At least for parts of Europe. We can't get that Netflix access over here. At least not yet.
-
I may have exaggerated the crappiness a bit. But the few tests I did were no good. It was a pre-dvd-era feeling, only with artefacts rather than analog noise.
-
yep, definitely a great addition if possiblel; it's integrated into the PS3. Streaming quality is good in the UK. Cheers. John

LoveFilm streaming quality in the UK is poor. At least it was when i tried it 3 months ago. Significantly worse than standard definition TV broadcasts. I certainly wouldn't use it again, unless it was to improve.
-
I'm still using the DVD rental from Lovefilm. Given that the Lovefilm is owned by Amazon now I suspect it will only get better.
I'd like to see it built into MC that would be awesome.

The streaming quality is good now and also lovefilm are now streaming a lot of movies in hd as well.....I really think jriver should consider adding the feature especially now people are dumping Microsoft mce

Regarding my opinion about JRiver support: Oh yes, please!
Regarding quality:
I checked both Lovefilm.co.uk and .no, and the Norwegian site contains much more detailed info. The only common bit is that HD material streams at about 2Mbit/s. In Norway, many movies stream at so called medium quality, around 0.8Mbit/s. Even the HD material is thus less than 1/10 of bluray bitrate.... so even if some percieve streaming quality as good, it can never be comparable, even to old-fashion DVDs.
Audio is heavily compressed, AAC 96kbps or 128kbps (HD material). And STEREO only, no multichannel. I could live with stereo, at least for TV series and crappy potato-crisp-and-beer evenings-at-home-alone movies. But 128kbps???
Let's trust it will get better.

I agree, LoveFilm support would be great!

Looks like love film are securing some good streaming deals.... Has Jim had any thoughts on supporting love film for uk users?

This would be great to have. To be able to browse your watchlist then play a movie, all from Theatre view, would be great
