I took a quick peek in Xplain's rapier skin.. (2 xml files and associated pictures).. I am curious to what is possible skinning theatre view.
we can oviously change, colors, fonts, backgrounds, icons, menu rollers, and what not.
My question is: Can the skin gain access to the tag data on 'libary items'??
eg: if someone navigated into a subfolder containing tv episodes, can a skin access the tag data of the episodes listed.?
Thanks for any info

What are you wanting to do edit tags, display tags, etc?
Theater View has access to the tags and they can be displayed but how and when they are displayed is fairly limited.
I am not an expert but I am fairly well versed and may at least be able to tell you if what you want is currently possible.

I'd be more interested in Menu layout, navigation and animations. It's just that I don't have the time to dig in.

No, I do not think you can do that Justin.
I'm often thinking of modifying some skins my self, but I end up not touching it because it just feels like feels like doing complex work in the dark. It would be so nice if someone would try to figure out what's actually possible, and create a thread with explanation and perhaps some examples. We have a guide for standard view skinning, but I do not think we have much at all for Theater View? I've tried to find something, but have come up short every time.
I tried to start out by identifying what was possible a little while ago. But I did not get to far:

Hopefully someone could finish it and document what's possible to do. It would certainly help others create skins.

There's unfortunantly not much you can do with this,
The menu can only be letters and not pictures, you can't control fonts, but you can control colour of the letters
You can set up the menu vertically or horizont, but only horizont works right.
You can make menu points background.
With animation there's nothing to do.

Above is some links to the wiki, some of the information is not correct,
but most of it should be right.
They do very much need an update.

What? I searched several times in Wiki and forums, but found nothing. My search skills must suck...
Where do you find this page? I can't see it on the Wiki Topic index page.
It's great that there is some documentation. And yes, it probably needs an update.

Here is something that may be a "quickie" theme......we'll call it a "dirty" theme. Let's say someone ceates a template with all buttons, pointers, colors, etc. Someone who is at least somewhat partial to skinning can modify at will to create a new "dirty" theme. These "dirty themes" would not be a polished full theme like the work from Xplain, but instead just minor variations on the original - kinda like the Standard View themes where the layout is always the same but colors, size, etc have been modified. This, I believe, would be an easy start to motivate people, and at the same time would be practice in that we can begin to understand how the skinning engine behaves. For instance, if l like the OEM Theater View skin, but wish some items were a bit different....things like colors, or a wider scroll bar for my touchscreen....then I can modify it with these small touches. This is a Dirty Theme, as oppossed to Xplain's full blown final themes.
