on the same pc on the same cd drive ripping the same disc :
eac speed is 9.5 x !!!!
-
another test with different disk 0.8X VS. 10.6
-
Are this supposed to be a report or a question? ::)
More info would probably be good in any case.

Turn off secure ripping. It will be much faster.
-
dear MrHaugen it is a question. since mc on my pc's is so slow, i am using eac program until i will find a solution, i hope that you would help me .
-
thank you JimH .
where do i find the "scure"and how can i change it?
-
It's in the settings for ripping CD's.
MC's options has a search window at the bottom of the screen.
-
My last set of rips were pretty slow. Under 1x I think.
-
We went back and compared current builds to old builds and couldn't see any speed differences in secure ripping.
The speed will vary with the drive and condition of the disk.
Using 'Normal' ripping instead of 'Secure' will be much faster, but obviously doesn't double-check the reads.
-
After digging some more, it looks like some new drives have a firmware thing where they don't read fast (presumably to reduce noise) in certain cases.
Secure ripping was not always getting the drive to work in high speed mode, causing rip speeds to be much slower than they would be otherwise.
We're tuning secure ripping to work better with these drives. Look for the improvements in a coming build.

This problem should be fixed in build 177:

Thanks for the fix. My ripping speeds are up to 10x faster than before! I wasn't even using my HTPC for ripping since it was so slow.
