Title: Webgizmo hardly working
Post by: MM_switcher on July 07, 2012, 10:58:00 am
When using webgizmo in playing here on several notebooks'with Firefox, IE8 and IE9, Chrome) and on my tablet,  I can play videos perfectly.
I can browse through pictures and see all folders and thumbnails. When clicking on the final picture (all jpg) I only see the black background of webgizmo.
When playing Music, everything goes well until clicking on play, then I only see the turning wheel.
On my tablet I have no problems with webgizmo, on the notebook as goes fine with tremote.
Do I need to configure something else in MC?

Thanks for help!

After a de- and new-installation of Adobe Flash i can play music, but no success with pictures; disabling flashblock, n-script etc in Firefox didn't change anything.

Any ideas for the pictures?

When selecting an image WebGizmo selects html5 for the playback type and there are many issues with html5. IMO html5 is a frickin nightmare due to a lack of standard support across browsers so it gets neglected and the only reason it gets any attention at all is because crApple refuses to use flash. Granted flash has it's own problems for security and performance reasons (cpu hungry) but at least it is standardized for the most part.
I know it sounds crazy that something that should be as simple as images causes problems but that is a product of the mobile world we live in where device manufacturers have decided to be pig headed and try to force a immature format on us.

Thanks for the explanation, understood. But isn't there a way to tell Firefox on the notebook to use flash instead of html5?

Hmm, didn't work for me in the current version of FF. Also, it appears the about:config variable for turning off html5 parsing has gone missing as well...

I tried enabling it and playing around with the settings in the about:config. Nope, no change in behaviour.
If html5 is that problematic with all available browsers, what about JRiver switching to flash? At least it seems to work in general.

Apple doesn't support Flash.

Apple doesn't support Flash

And this is the reason why we on windows can't it with Webgizmo?

Currently if we detect html5 support for the given media on the browser being used, we try to use it.
That said, we've discovered where the problem is with image and video playback in html5 and it will be fixed in the next build.

I'm really impressed how you guys try to solve problems (and finaly also do it). That will now also give my wife the chance to use Webgizmo for her purposes. Thanks for the promissed solution. ;D
As I always want to learn, would it be possible for you explain what the issue was?

The escapement added here caused problems when we needed to output literal quotes for one particular token that's used with HTML 5 playback:
