I'm trying MC 17 (17.0.180), going to upgrade from 16, mostly for the SACD iso support and the DSP handheld options.
I unchecked "show tree" in startup options, but it keeps showing up every time I start MC, and also every time I open and then close Options. I didn't see anything in the first 2 pages of this board, so I apologize if this is old news and is being fixed.
Edit: I still have MC 16 installed, if that might have anything to do with it.

Was the tree closed when you shut-down MC? Unchecking the option won't cause the tree to be closed if it was left open.
-
Yeah, I made sure it was closed while unchecking the option. Now when I start up MC, close the tree (because it's already open), and then go into options, it opens while I'm in the dialog box... it's possessed! :o

Could this be a skin issue?
Which skin do you have enabled? Try switching to a default skin like Noire.
-
I'm using Noire... I'm using the trial version right now (waiting for a paycheck), could that have anything to do with it?
-
Nah ... no idea then. Never heard of this issue before. I can't reproduce it either.
-
I don't suppose it would help if I made a video to show what's going on...

Have you set the startup location to "Last Location"?
(in the Tools/Options/Startup dialog.)

I usually have it set to "Audio" but I tried Last Location and that didn't work.

I can't reproduce this here.
Please let us know if you figure out any other clues.

OK, so it looks like this happens with every view (Audio, Images, Video, etc.). If I click on a view (not the drop-down arrow), the view highlights and the tree drops down (normal). I close the tree by clicking on the arrow, open Tools/Options without changing any settings, click OK, and then the tree drops down (which I believe shouldn't be happening).
Probably won't be enough information, but I figured I'd give it a chance...

I followed your detailed instructions and got the behavior you describe.

I don't think it's supposed to do that, am I right?
-
I think those of us who responded earlier all thought you were referring to the tree pane itself rather than the tree items. You have the Tree > Auto expand option set. I suspect the selected item is expanding simply because focus is returning to it after the Options window is closed. I'm not sure why it does so with some windows and not others. If the behaviour bothers you, maybe you should just turn the option off.
-
Ah... I didn't know that the tree and tree pane were separate items--my bad! Thanks for the help!
Is the Auto Expand option new in v. 17? It never used to do that in 16... just curious.
