There is an option in Television settings to default to the Crop Edges setting (which you can change any time while you are on a channel). But, neither option is a really good default for me. My experience is this:
- If the broadcast is 4:3 ratio and/or standard def, I get noise at the top of the signal and Crop Edges fixes this nicely. I want it on.
- If the broadcast is widescreen/HD, I get no noise either way, but with Crop Edges on I often lose half of a ticker at the bottom of the screen so I want Crop Edges off.
Is it possible for me to set things up to Crop Edges for standard def only? Thanks.

+1, for the reasons already given

FYI - if you are taking about the white line of 'noise' at the top of SD material - that is where the CC signal is being broadcast. Back when this mechanism was chosen, overscan would have hidden this from view. With modern sets having 0% overscan, you can see this.
How about a feature in MC that looks for this line and auto-hides it by adding a slight zoom.
