MC is a truly great video player, but it there is one thing I'd love to turn off - the OSD. Like the slider bar that pops up on pause, or the volume slider.
I've searched and searched but can't find a way to turn it off.
All I can find that is close is this feature request thread:

How the heck do you turn off the OSD in MC16 or MC17? Is that even possible?
Thanks.
-
It isn't possible, but it won't appear unless you use the up or down arrow keys.
-
Thanks Jim.
For me it does appear if I press pause or change the volume. That is what I'd like to turn off. I don't mind the info under the arrow buttons as I can avoid pressing them. :)
I use Standard View with a detached display on an external projector and don't want to see the popup on the screen during pause or volume change.
Cheers

If you detach the display (Ctrl+6), it will not show the OSD.
I suppose it might be better to make this optional in the regular Display View, but it's the first I remember seeing this request. Could you help us understand why you mind seeing the position or volume when you make a change?

Hmmm..... strange. It sure does for me in MC16 and 17 on two different computers running Win XP and Win 7. Pops up if pausing with Ctrl+P or the pause button. What am I doing wrong?
The reason I'd like to hide it is for public presentation to an audience. VLC gets used in theater for the same thing, but it does not play video nearly as well as MC nor deal with the different formats, pixel sizes and codecs well in a remote monitor mode. JRiver is excellent in this regard and the about only thing I'd change is turning off the OSD. Plus, I know my way around JRiver better. 8)

It might just be a bug with the beta I'm using that the OSD doesn't appear in Detached View. Sorry if I mispoke.
Regardless, I think we could add an option to disable the OSD. Bump this thread if you don't see it in a few weeks.

Thanks Matt. I look forward to the option.
-
Bump. Would love to have this option as well. Thanks for any info.

Still running mc18. Can the OSD be disabled in v19?

Coming next build:
NEW: Added Options > Tree & View > Advanced > Enable OSD to allow turning off the OSD.

Thanks for the feature, Matt!

Would it be possible to have an intermediate option to select which items one can display with the OSD ? For example I use volume, stream and subtitles a lot, but I do not care about aspect ratio.... so it would be great to disable only the items one does not use.
Thanks again for this great app :D
