Title: Today's Desktop Background
Post by: marko on July 28, 2012, 02:35:04 am
Unless otherwise credited, all photos taken by myself. The full size images are 1920 x 1080 and if you like any, you can right click the small preview and choose "Save Target As..." to download the full size copy, but please, if you do, leave a comment.

Today's background was taken from the top of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. I was up there at 6 am to catch the sunrise.

That's really Nice

It reminded me of a line from Star Trek "World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky"

Wonderful photo marko. I was up there a couple of months ago but none of my photos were as nice as that.  :)

Sauzee, you live in Edinburgh?

I have some others from that shoot that work nicely as backgrounds, I'll post them over time.

Today, it's back to Birnam Hill in Perthshire:

No, I'm in Broughty Ferry. Maybe I should  try taking a few shots for desktop backgrounds. It's rather nice here with the castle, harbour and beach. Aren't we lucky living in Scotland, such a beautiful place  ;D

We are indeed...

Today's background isn't so uniquely 'Scottish' though, black & white wind turbine on a long-ish exposure:

So the big fans are to move Scotland closer to France or more out to sea?

No comment :) ;)

Today's background is Miko, a rescued, hand reared barn owl at Blair Drummond Safari Park falconry center. I was gifted an afternoon with the birds a few years ago. It was a great experience, my Mum took the photos...

You need a plastic ninja gnome. He will deal with those pesky birds.

Nice pics Marko.

Ninja Gnome... Love it :)

There's a few photos in that folder now, no people shots! Windows picks one at random each day, and it's given me birds two days on the trot...

This peacock allowed me to get up close and personal with it. It was strange, I swear it enjoyed being photographed... it even followed for a bit when I got bored and moved on!!

For some reason I never use my own pictures as a background but I'm sure you won't mind if I show off a bit too ;). Clicky for a biggy.

Colourful... and of course I don't mind... the more the merrier.

Today's background was taken at the local butterfly world. It was cold out, tropical in, I remember instantly regretting taking the camera in there. It got very wet, very quickly. I spent about ½ an hour and many napkins drying it off before it warmed up and settled down. Thankfully, and luckily I'm told, no damage incurred.

A squirrel at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh...

I can't remember the last time I saw a red squirrel, which is sad.

I use this one that I (or my wife, we can't remember) shot in a field nearby as one of mine.  It was probably her.  She takes beautiful pictures.

I cropped it to fit my 1920x1200 dual monitor setup.  Looks great.  I use it as one of the set that cycles on my displays (via DisplayFusion).

Here are two others I use on my HTPC.  These were both shot by my wife...

And, lastly, here's one I know I shot.  The guts of my current server.  This is another dual-monitor one.

Wonderful shots, Glynor. You too Marko.  I'm going to pass this thread onto Sandra, our family photographer. Know she'll appreciate them.

Cheers,
Rod

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Love the Beach Stones, Mount Desert Island and Public Reserve Land. Copies added to the "glynor" album, thank you. :)

There's an old boardwalk around Red Moss Peat Bog in the Pentland Hills above Edinburgh:

Got the camera way down low for a completely different perspective.

Glad you're enjoying the shots Rod.

and Public Reserve Land

I know, isn't that shot cool?  Its like an ad in an LL Bean catalog.

The "story" behind that place is cool too.  That was taken from a kayak in the middle of the lake.   It is in a public reserve land way up north in Maine (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Deboullie,+maine&hl=en&ll=47.09537,-68.661118&spn=0.425384,1.044388&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=62.186014,133.681641&hnear=Deboullie+Pond&t=m&z=11), where my wife and I went on a camping trip a few years ago.  We got there by following US 1 until it ends in Ft Kent, then we continued up State Rte-161 (which is "where" US1 would be if it hadn't ended), and had to take a privately-owned road (a sort-of "dirt highway" logging road with a toll) for about an hour and a half down into the "park".  When you check in at the toll station at the beginning of the road, they ask you how long you intend to stay, and explain that you have to check in at the station if you want to stay longer, or else they might send out rescue parties and helicopters (which you have to pay for when they find you).

When we got there, that guy fishing was the only other human there (for miles, around, probably).  We had to paddle to the other end of the pond to get a look at him at all.
