Bugs
Send To : Send To doesn't cascade nested playlist groups the same way that Quick Play does.
MEGA-ME Skinning : When I slide the content view\tree view bar, I get weird drawing errors, but only for the duration of the drag.

MEGA-ME Skinning : Occasionally, I'll see flashes of that bight purple/pink color that's used for transparencies.

Remote Control : Next\Previous Playlists skip Smartlists.
Smartlists : MJ displays playlist ID numbers in Smartlists rules. It should clean that up to display the name of the playlist and leave the ID number in the background.
One Tiny Little Enhancement That Would Make MJ A Little More Easy To Use & Involves Probably A Minute Of Coding
On the CD Burning box, can the Number of Copies text box get one of those up/down incrementer/decrementer things?

MEGA-ME Skinning Bug (still):
1. Minimize, go to mini-me or just display another application on top of MJ and restore/return to MEGA-ME and there's a drawing error where part of the previous background is 'captured' and shown in MEGA-ME (skin-enabled mode only)...see:
-
Doof,
> MEGA-ME Skinning : Check For Updates isn't skinned.
Check for updates starts another application, it will not be skinned.
> MEGA-ME Skinning : Explorer Tree Views (Like when you browse for a location) look ugly because the folder icons aren't skinning correctly.
We can't do anything about it for now, it's a system bug.
> Track Info : The Edit Properties link no longer functions. Has this been changed or removed?
This feature was removed.
> Requests
Sorry Doof, but no more new features for version 8.0

ZRocker,

Can't reproduce the problem, what OS is it happening on?

Metamorphis Bug (still):
1. The OnSliderPositionChanged events for EQ bands still does not work. This stopped working a few builds back.
-
Doof,
>Send To : Send To doesn't cascade nested playlist groups the same way that Quick Play does.
This is actually a feature request. Quick Play uses our own, more flexible menus, which makes nested items much easier than they are in system menus like "Send To".
>Smartlists : MJ displays playlist ID numbers in Smartlists rules. It should clean that up to display the name of the playlist and leave the ID number in the background.
It's smart in the summary, but not in the search string. We use the numbers so that smartlists stay valid when you move/rename playlists. I agree it's ugly, but at least in version 8, that's what the summary is for.
Thanks.

A wierd thing: For the last two releases, when I L.click on a artist in Media Library Artis/Album view, then R.click & select play, instead of playing all the tracks for that artist, MJ plays only one track from an album in the middle of the pack. Theory: When I L.click the artist, MJ centers the artist in the display, and somehow the focus for the r.click action stays 'centered' in the list instead of traveling with artist as it moves up.

Pretty soon I'm not going to have anything else to post about.

Ah ha! Got something.

MEGA-ME Skinning : MJ bug or just Green Eyes skin? Notice the position slider.

MegaMe Skin problems.
(Do yall want me to keep posting these?)
-Sliders not skinned
-Menu's (context and program) not skinned.
These will not be skinned in version 8.0 of Media Jukebox. From a technical standpoint, they're much more difficult and dangerous to skin than other controls. (because they're painted at a lower level in the system) Maybe in Megamorphis 2.0.
-Sort in r.panel reverts most unctuously to default sort after every action. Stop it! Stop it I say, you cad, you...you (re)bounder!
Sorting is not remembered on a per-view basis. Perhaps MJ 9.0...
Thanks.

I noticed this at first in 257 and reported it in the thread there but it is still so in 260. Is it a bug or is it normal behaviour ?:
When I open the DSP Studio and move the volume slider in the Player, DSP Studio is send to the taskbar, that is minimized.
-
9. Fixed: "Analyzing devices" message would come up way too often. (still)
Yeah. Totally. Used to happen with most right clicks on the sys tray icon and other areas on the tree. good work.

The DSP Studio isn't "always on top", so if you click on MJ, it'll cover the DSP studio up. Would making it "always on top" be better with people?
Thanks.

Matt> That would work well I think. But that's just the opinion of somebody who sets it and forgets it.

when converting (didnt try ripping yet) from wav or other format to MPC using built in encoder, often the progress bar
freezes after doing half or more of the conversion.
The converter window itself freezes as well, but MJ doesnt - meaning that while this occurs, I can play other songs
with MJ with the frozen converter window.
Just tried 5 conversions, only 1 succeeded, the four of them went as described.
Did a conversion from wav to mp3 without problems.

Hey Matt,
Let me make sure we understand each other. I said
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Sort in r.panel reverts most unctuously to default sort after every action. Stop it! Stop it I say, you cad, you...you (re)bounder!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You said
>>Sorting is not remembered on a per-view basis. Perhaps MJ 9.0...
What I mean is that the sort reverts even if focus never leaves the right panel. So if I sort, and then drag a song to the left panel and drop it, the right panel reverts. That is most annoying, and seriously detracts from the utility of MJ. I can see the view reverting if I leave and come back. MJ 7 acted just fine in this respect.

Kudos to the MJ team - 260 is looking great.
It looks as though library sorting isn't working the way I expect, though - I have sorting set as follows:
1. Artist (ascending)
2. Album (ascending)
3. Name (ascending)
However, when I am in Media Library -> Genre/Artist/Album tab, the 3rd sort (Name) isn't working. The Artist and Album are correctly sorted, but the next sort is track #, not Name.

TV Tuner app slows my computer to a craw. Picture is choppy and both Processors near 100%!
Runs fine through ATI Multimedia Center. TV card is ATI TV-Wonder PCI. Downloaded latest drivers, and a window came up saying that I need DirectX 8.0 Capture drivers. Downloaded that but couldn't install them, it said that the drivers were only for Win 98/ME/2000??
Help!!!

MJ Bug:
1. The tab order is wrong the Options > General and for Options > Tree & View Settings (dialogs).
Download Manager Bug:
1. If you set DM's Play Downloaded and Import Downloaded options (both of them), only Import Downloaded happens...the downloaded tracks are NOT added to the current Playing Now playlist.
SeanC: Try turning off 'Track # for Albums' checkbox on the same Sorting options screen (Tree & View Settings).

On exit the Media Jukebox process does not terminate. If I keep starting Media Jukebox and exit, multiple copy of the process will be present on the task manager. I initially suspected it may have been related to one of the interface plugin I have installed (Busy box example, and AV), by I stopped them and verified that the process still remain behind

MEGA-ME Skinning Bug:
1. With MEGA-ME skinning enabled, MJ still does not draw the rename box, text selection highlight and input cursor properly. Wide letters like 'W' and 'M' show the problem, but, basically the rename box is off 1 pixel to the right in the Content view, the text selection highlight is off 1 pixel to the right in both Org Tree and Content View and the input cursor is off by 1 pixel when placed at the beginning. See:

.
and
.

.
and
.

Update:
Maybe this is just a Windows bug as these same drawing errors occur in MJ with MEGA-ME skinning disabled...but, in Windows Explorer, renaming a folder/file beginning with a capital 'W' does not draw incorrectly (eg, everything is not 1 pixel off like what you see in MJ).

When using a trackinfo page in visualizations, an activex message appears. "An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of this page. Do you want to allow this interaction?" I have a dual boot system. Using win98 I have never seen this message. Using winXP I can't get rid of it. I have enabled all activeX content through internet explorer, but still won't go away. Is this a bug, and it is just not playing well with XP. Or is this just a setting that I have not discovered yet. Either way it is quite annoying to use the infopages. When a new song starts and new info is about to be displayed, the above message appears. Upon further trial and error, if you do not respond to the message by clicking on Yes or No. You get a Microsoft Visual C|PLS||PLS| Runtime Error. Abnormal program termination. And you have to close Media Jukebox.

I put in a Compilation Cd in 8.0.257. When on-line connection was present,I think it got the artists ok. When I rebooted PC and brought up MJ, no internet access, only "various artists" appeared in artist field.
Upgraded to 8.0.260 and "gatering info & updating view" takes about 8 minutes, it looks like its searhing the hard drive(s). If I start MJ before internet connection, and start it later (AOL), I get Analyzing Devices for several minutes. I still can't get it to go back to Gracenote/CDDB to get the artists name.

MPEG Plus is still not working. If the plug-in is selected, MJ crashes but will restart. If the latest musepack is selected as the external encoder, MJ AND Windows crashes. CNTRL-ALT-DEL does not shut it down, power-off is the only remedy. PITA to wait for 15 minutes for restart.

Hi Nikolay,
It is happening in my computer also. Actually as soon as I start MJ in Mega-Me I can see the background of my desktop. I also notice a problem with visualizations, when the title of the song/artist is displayed in visualization the letters are VERY blocky and you can hardly read it.
Yes, I finally broke down and installed the beta... MAN, TALK ABOUT AWESOME!!! I love it!

Bug:
1. First time ever, I've seen this 'too much spent data' error...now seen it twice in this release. Once while using the position slider (MEGA-ME) and then clicking Stop. Once while clicking Pause in mini-me mode. See:

Bug:
MJ doesn't play some asf files. e.g.
If you open this as a streaming file
http://www.themusic.uk.com/tm/streams/wa_tp_hi.asx
it works fine. If you download it and import it, it works fine, but it's a reference, so you have to be connected to play it. It references
http://www.themusic.uk.com/tm/audio/w_tp_hi.asf
If you open that as a streaming file, it works fine. If you download it and try to import it, MJ freezes with 100% CPU usage

MP3 playback still squeaks and pops if you analyse replay gain on another mp3. This has happened in EVERY MJ8 build so far, and I've reported it regularly. Can you reproduce not it, is it hard to fix or is it too low on your list of priorities?
-
Click on a Playlist, press Tab to switch to the right pane, then press Tab again. The focus won't leave the right pane.
Keyboard focus still gets lost in the File Properties window very easily. e.g.
Selecting a single file and pressing Alt-Enter leaves focus in the main window with no way of editting properties.
Editting Genre then pressing Return loses focus entirely.
Selecting a track in Media Library and pressing Return to play it looses keyboard focus (with Jump to Playing Now turned off)
Switching to another window with Alt-Tab, then coming back to MJ looses keyboard focus.
Sorry to be constantly hassling you about keyboard focus, but my remote is mapped to the keyboard and every time I loose focus, it's a pain.
-
Wow! the betas just keep coming and getting better so fast!
You guys rock!
Thankyou so much for fixing the 2sec repeat at the end of tracks in DirectSound.
Now, just a few things:
I have never had this error message before:
"Internal play buffer error. Playing buffer accumulated too much spent data"
I have had it a few times now, -each time was when I was using the track position slider in mega-me, or pausing and un-pausing quickly.
Another thing I thought I should mention is that I couldn't play one of my ASF files (actually I only have one). I thought it might be the file so I tested it in both WinMediaPlayer (yuk) and RealOne Player (yukker!) and both play it fine with no problems.
-so I can only assume it is MJ.
-oh yeah, it locked up MJ and I had to kill the process.

Two problems.
1) MJ locks up randomly during mp3 playback. Happens anywhere from half a minute to a few hours into playing, does not appear to be caused by a specific file. Did not happen until the last few builds.
2) When right-clicking on an album in the Media Library and selecting Send To|Device|CD Burner, the album is placed in the burn queue twice; for instance, with a ten track album, there are 20 entires. Entries 1-10 are tracks 1-10, and 11-20 are 1-10 again.

When using Remote Desktop, the track time in the player window starts at around 3-5secs. Not sure who is to blame on this one. When I start to play the file, the playback is instant. No big deal.
Also when using RD, changing to full screen says Playback Engine: Mode not supported, click OK, everything is fine. Visualizations & Trackinfo work just fine. Sound is still playing fine. This actually works better than from using MJ on this computer. What's up with that?

1) When MJ8 crashes I get a dialog box saying it created a log file somewhere. It would be great if that dialog box also included the name & location of the log file.
2) How about an option to eject a CD when ripping complete?
3) How about including the track number in the ripping window (with the track selection check boxes)?
Thanks!

Inserted brand new CD in without starting MJ, starts playing no problem. Stop playback to rip and get this error message...
MEDIA JUKEBOX caused a general protection fault
in module GDI.EXE at 0003:00000820.

Here's the short version: If a track is listed twice on the Playing Now list, and one of them is currently playing, the other will become the currently playing after doing a sort.
Here's the long version: I took a chance on 8.0.260 and used it to DJ at a dance last night. I put on a list of over 250 tracks in Playing Now and rearranged it as needed during the night. Here's the scenario: The track at Seq. #5 is playing. I want the track at Seq. #225 to play next, so I use the Send feature to make it play after the currently playing song. Since MJ does not MOVE the track, but COPIES it, I now have two copies of it, one at Seq. #6 and one at Seq. #226 (because of the copy, I now have one more entry on the list and all past #6 have increased list position by 1). The play moves on to #6 and I start to look for another song to make next. Because there is no SEARCH in Playing Now, I sort by clicking on a column heading so I can find an appropriate song to put next. I find one and make it next. The sort goes back to normal (sorted by Seq.). But now instead of the song at #6 being the one playing, the copy at #227 is (remember I just added another when I made another 'next' so 226 became 227). Now my play sequence is totally off and the next song to play will be one in my "reserve pool" instead of the one I had planned, which should be #7 - not #227. To keep this from happening, I had to either delete the no longer wanted copy, or drag the track to next instead of sending to 'next'. This only happened after doing a re-sort by column heading clicking.
I hope I didn't lose you with the long version. The boil down comes to this. If making a track on Playing Now MOVE to next instead of COPY to next, I think this probably wouldn't happen. That or a better way of tracking which copy is the one actually playing so the focus doesn't switch is needed.

MJ hangs when trying to get rare album images from the internet e.g. Dodie Stevens - Pink Shoe Laces (1961 album).
Clicking on cancel results in three overlayed whited-out windows and an MJ lockup. Need to exit program via task manager.

As far as I know, MJ doesn't write any error logs. Windows 2000 and NT catch certain types of crash and give this message:
MediaJukebox.e.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being created.
This is caused by the Dr. Watson debugger. You can control its behaviour and view its logs by running drwtsn32.exe. Unless you're a developer, it doesn't tend to be that useful though. I've disabled crash dumps as it takes too long every time a programme crashes.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in

Trying to rip a new CD that has never been in the machine gives me this error.

Machinehead,
Try turning off skins. You're having a lot of strange problems. Could be something else, but try the skins.
Next time you're on the fifth floor and it's blowing 40 miles an hour, tie yourself off. We don't want to see you blown overboard.
-
Jim,
Thought about skins. But I have a feeling it may be the CD itself. Have not had any problems with older CDs that have been through CDDB. Is MJ still able to look up CDs before a rip?
-
OK, deleted all previous attempts with this CD and backed up library. Next, disabled skins for a short timt to manually enter track names. Re-enabled skins and I'm ripping as I type. It was giving me some static with VBR encoder to begin with. Right now it's not, I'll see how this one goes. Should have mentioned in the first post that the I was connected to the internet when the problems began. I don't think that should have been a problem, we'll see. Have another new disk to rip after this one. Maybe I'll disconnect first and see what happens.
Forgot to mention... Thanks for note of concern Jim. But I'm too fat for a lil' ol' gust of wind like that.
Maybe 45 mph.

Maybe coincidental but I'm getting lots of CDDB problems with this build...
CDs that when inserted, come up with incorrect artist and album then immediately cause MJ to crash.
Example: GN'R Lies comes up as Allman Brothers, Brothers and Sisters, then crashes. Bring up MJ again and Update CDDB and it crashes again. I tried flushing the CDDB cache but no joy. I had to rip this CD with MusicMatch.
Out of 50 CDs ripped with 8.0.260 at least 25% have come up initially with missing track names.
Update CDDB fixes the problem. I've ripped aout 250 CDs with the previous 4 releases and have not had this problem.
Several CDs (Hole, Live Through This for one) cause "Unknown SL Error: cddbErrorStringId() needs an update" followed by a C Runtime Error.

RemyJ,
Are you skinned? Disabled the skins and viola, it works. That did seem to help. Got the same thing on the above post. Missing, and tracks that were wrongly named.

Yes and No. I disabled skinning and...
GN'R Lies comes up as GN'R Lies in the tree and garbage in the right window: a mix of tracks from "Brothers and Sisters", and garbage characters in Artist.
Update from CDDB does correctly refresh.
At least it doesn't crash.
Indigo Girls Shaming of the Sun came up with some track names missing and all upper case.
Update from CDDB captured all the tracks and restored mixed case.

Because there is no SEARCH in Playing Now
Try Ctrl-Q

Bug: When you use "Import media...", the filenames in the scanning process are converted from '&' to '_'. Media Jukebox is skinned (don't know if it works OK without skins)

Problem with plug-in manager.
Click on tool-bar icon, MJ crashes with GDI error message (sometimes, not always). Didn't capture full message text last time around, because I had to reboot and lost what was on the clipboard.
When this happens, it is not replicated by clicking on Plugin Manager in the settings drop-down.
Alternatively: plugin Manager opens, but none of the links to the download pages are active, PM freezes, must exit through C-A-D. This occurs when the Manager is accessed either through the icon or the drop-down.

ZA, Rambooster, Cookie Pal and POW open. Ditto Media Server.
BTW, merge library function now works in 8.0.260. Thanks. But wasn't there a short-cut to cloning libraries in the prior builds? Could one be added /restored in the future?

Hi - Disk writer doesn't close the final file in the playlist unless you close MJ.
-
CD Labeler Print quality using cover art has horizontal lines 1/16" apart from top to bottom when you print label. The lines are the same color same length every time you print the label. The lines are various colors.
Could you send the graphic file to me (johnt@jriver.com) and I'll take a look at it?
Thanks.

Hey Matt,
Let me make sure we understand each other. I said
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Sort in r.panel reverts most unctuously to default sort after every action.
Oh. I see. It'll be all better next build. The "full" update will still happen in Device views, but otherwise you'll just get a passive update where the sorting / files remain the same, but the info gets updated.
Thanks for clearing that up.
-Matt

Next, I am still having trouble ripping some CD song tracks. My offer still stands: I will send you the discs that I am having trouble with. This happens both on my Win2000 machine and on my Win98 Machine with 4 different CD players, and two different CD player configurations. I will bring the message to JohnT to the top.
I ordered one of those disks you mentioned, so I can see if I can reproduce the problem here.

Update:
1. Clicked the Stop button in MEGA-ME mode (MEGA-ME skins disabled) and got that 'too much spent data' error again (3rd time now with this release...never seen this error before in MJ 7.0 or 8.0).

The CD Label wizard left tree (with the icons) is out of the box, the grey part comes out of line
