Title: Menus on Panansonic Bravia TV as Media Client
Post by: peterdrowan on August 21, 2012, 02:50:33 am
Is it possible to change the menus I see on the remote streamed Bravia TV in media server mode.  These are not the same as I see on the PC but are just the DLNA standard menus and I can't seem to find any way to change them by any of the options

You should be able to configure any views. Go to Options -> Media Network -> Add or Configure DLNA servers... -> Customize Views.

Isn't Bravia a Sony set? is that may have an effect?

The model of TV may have affect what sort of media files it can play, but the difference in the menus that the OP is seeing is because JRiver has a different menu system for the PC client and for DLNA equipment.  The OP has to create the menus himself that he wants to see on the TV.

This statement is not necessarily true. The format of the browse tree depends on the Control Point (i.e. on the TV) manufacturer:

1) Some Control Points follow the browsing tree structure defined by the server (in this case MC); such Control Points use the UPnP "Browse" metaphor to display the various branches and leaves of the browse tree of MC's content directory.

2) Other Control Points have their own internally defined browsing tree structure; such Control Points use the UPnP "Search" metaphor to fetch entries from MC's content directory and to populate branches and leaves of the CP's own internally defined browsing tree.

However I don't know if your Sony (Bravia) or Panasonic TV uses the "Browse" or the "Search" metaphor.

The Sony uses Browse (we've got one). So changing the views in MC (under the DLNA server settings) will change what you see on the TV.

As far as I can tell, only the Xbox uses search exclusively.

And Windows Media Player...

...and -- dare I mention it here -- JRiver Media Center...
