This has been asked before but never satisfactorily answered. Is there a way to play a slideshow in 'Playing Now' in theatre view when playing music, perhaps as part of a visualization?
I currently use the 3D Cube vis as this will play my photos that I place in an image 'playlist' but it isn't ideal having a 3D cube sometimes showing the photos upside down!
I don't need anything as flash as that anyway, just a simple slideshow of random images from my family photos when playing music.
In Visualization studio, is there a field I can insert for this, say to replace 'COVER-ART'??

The answer is yes :)
1. If you use the "slideshow" option instead of "3D Cube", images will fill more of the screen and will always be shown the right way up, though, if I recall correctly, portrait shots don't work very well here. If you go into standard view, and create a smartlist under Playlists called "3D Visualization Images" (without quotes) then these will be the pictures used for the slideshow/cube 3D vizualisations. You can use the smartlist rules to only list landscape images, as well as add any exclusion or inclusion rules you like, then forget about it. As you tag future photos, they will either fall into the list or be excluded depending on your rules.
2. If you start playback of music first, then go to your image library and browse for some images to play, and play them, the slideshow will run without interupting the music. When going this route, the "Start, Stop, Previous and Next" buttons all act on the slideshow, not the music.
3. The attached image shows my choices under "Photos" in Theater View. "Pictures + Music" opens a playlist group (set up in standard view, then configure theater view to use it) that contains a half dozen or so select smartlists that include a bunch of randomly ordered music and photos. Selecting one of those launches the slideshow and the music together, and here, the "Start, Stop, Previous and Next" buttons all act on the music, not the slideshow. One of my favourites in here is a selection of random landscape photos set to some instrumental tracks from my library. You could just as easily set one up to show all your rave photos to a stomping techno soundtrack if that's more your thing!
If you need any help setting up any or all of the above, just ask, it won't be a problem.
That help?

Thank you!! I haven't really used the Smartlist feature up to now, but now have a few setup where it shows my images while playing music but the navigation buttons only affect the music. Perfect!
Glad you like my avatar!

I really hope MC 18 can improve the visualizations in a number of areas particularly the image slideshow.
1) I wish the slideshow would play fullscreen. I realize that you can play a set of images fullscreen after playing music, but then you can't control the music. Making more options here in terms of duration and type of transition would be awesome.
2) Select a specific image playlist from the visualization menu. Seems like this would be pretty easy especially with the new OSD.
3) Select a visualization option to show artist photos from the Web like in Theater View library views. Is this not the case because JRiver doesn't want to make too many server calls to those services?
4) Add MCC commands to the visualizations that way I can switch between them with specific buttons rather than having to cycle through them all.
5) Give an option to disable user selected visualizations from showing up in the OSD, that way we don't have to cycle through some of the really 'old style' ones.

This was one of the main reasons I set up "Pics + Music" for Theater View. When launched this way, the control buttons act upon the music instead of the slideshow. It is a bit limiting though as you need to know what you want when you set up the smart lists. I'm really hoping that after all the audiophile and videophile stuff we've had over the past couple of years that v18 gives our image libraries some much needed love.

Not sure if it is obvious or not... JRiver is great in so many aspects, but I can't get a hangle on images display.
What I would like to do is for JRiver to display images that are in the same folder as the music files it plays. I scan hires images of the liner art for each albums ripped, and I'd love to see them in Theater view. But is it possible?

I'm sure this is possible, but not automagically. I'm short on time at the moment so will need to flesh it out for you later if needed.
In order to make this happen, you would need to import the album images into your library and tag them accordingly with artist and album info. (This is no trouble using library tools > fill properties from filename)
Next, you would create a view for theater view that included both audio and album images.
You should then be able to drill into an album and choose the "Play All" option to have both audio and images play.
The limitations of this approach would be that it would only work for single album playback. If you selected two different albums for playback, the slideshow would show album art from both albums all the way through. I do believe that this is as close as you can currently get to your goal though, unless someone has any other ideas?

If your media is housed in well-structured folders that provide you with Album, Artist, etc. info, you can based your view on the components culled from Filename (path). This allows you to see all media files in given folder, and you don't have to tag your image files to match your audio files.
I have a post about this somewhere - I'll add it here if you're interested.

Interested I am!

Here's the idea. The topic was about renaming cover art, but the framework will work for displaying images as well.
