Title: Couple questions before purchasing...
Post by: muzicman0 on September 19, 2012, 10:23:14 am
Looking to replace WMC for my TV/Video needs, but I have a couple questions.  I have been running the demo for the last few days...

1) Is the TV recording portion of JRiver a separate service...IE: if MC crashes while recording a TV show, will the recording continue?  I do get occasional crashes (and have to Ctrl + Alt + Delete), but mostly when I am trying something new, so it will probably stabilize once I have stuff set up, but I do want to make sure that my TV shows will continue to record if it does crash.

2) Is it possible to change recording settings from within Theater View (IE: record only new episodes, etc)...if not, is it possible to set it so that it defaults to only record new episodes?  Or, will that be possible in v18?

I think that is it for now...I know I had a few more, but don't remember them now...I will post them as soon as I think of them...thanks for any responses!

1 more...

3) Is it possible to set my remote up (WMC Remote) so that if I use the WASAPI Audio driver, the volume keys will control the volume of all media, netflix, files, TV, etc...currently, I have gotten it to control TV and files with changing the settings to control internal volume.  System volume seems to do nothing...haven't tried the other options yet.

Eventually I will put a ASIO card on this system (I have a few for recording, but they are all in use right now)...so hopefully I can get the volume buttons on the remote to work with this as well.

Welcome.

Recording runs in-process, but things that can crash run out-of-process (in JRWorker, JRWeb, etc).  If you're getting crashes, you might post details.  It shouldn't be happening.

For configuring recording, you can do basic things in Theater View.  Advanced settings require Standard View.

(ps. you might have better luck if you split questions into their own threads, and use a subject that describes the question)

so, does MC17 have to be running for recording to work?

I should follow that up with currently I have the TV server set to start with Windows.

No.

Just enable 'Media server' in Options > Startup.

Also, it will wake the computer up to record and should let it go back to sleep once it finishes.

thanks for the answer!  I will test my last question tonight, so I won't bother you with it.  I get paid tomorrow, so I am hoping to buy then, assuming all checks out well.

muzicman- you know you can download a 30 day, fully functional, free trial, right?

Try it out. See if it works. If it does, put the money on the table. If not, turn away from the table and keep looking.  :)

Sorry muzicman, didn't catch that part.
;) no problem!  I bought last night.

There are a couple of things that still bother me:

1) No real management of subscriptions within Theater view
2) The guide doesn't keep up in real time if you don't exit, re-enter the guide.

Hopefully these will be addressed within v18.
