Hi guys, downloading 18 now. Data: I already purchased 18 licence and it is installed in my MC 17 setup.
¿Can I install 18 in parallell with 17, make it "see" licence and import database without losing 17 setup? ?
(yes I have a full system backup ;D)

Yes, you can. I'm currently running this way. So far MC18 is performing well.
Tip: You might also want to use a different skin on each version. It allows you to be easily aware of which version is loaded.

OK, thanks, how should I proceed with installation? Just let 18 decide?

I do a custom installation, just to verify that MC18 installs to a separate directory from MC17. I would guess that it would do this automatically anyway though. Other than that there isn't anything special to do.

OK, THANKS. Will try tomorrow and be back with feedback

I did a standard installation, and both 17 and 18 works fine. MC18 imported every aspect of my 17 settings automatically, so installing 18 was as painless and quick as installing a new build of 17. I worked out all by myself that using different skins would be a good idea. ;)

Can MC18 connect to library servers of MC17? (i.e. can a new release of MC connect to the library server of an older release?) Or is there no guarantee of that sort of backwards-compatibility? Obviously DLNA connectivity between two releases should still work.

Does MC 18 convert the library or use the same library as MC 17?

Version 18 makes a copy of the v17 library and uses the copy.
This means v18 won't cause trouble with v17.
It also means you'll need to manually configure it (again) if you want to keep your library in a special location. However, do not share a library folder between v17 and v18 -- it could lead to problems.

To be clear, if we imported our MC17 library into MC18 by pointing it to the folder, we need to then point the MC18 version of the library to a new folder in order to avoid problems? (I assume these problems only arise if actively using the libraries in the this shared folder via both MC17 and MC18?)

Thanks, Matt. Indeed sharing a library folder led to some problems when going from 16 to 17, so I'll be sure to avoid doing that same mistake again :)
bunglemebaby: Yes, since MC 18 converts the library to a format not supported by MC 17, MC 17 will no longer be able to access the library if you move the new library created by MC 18 to the location where your MC 17 library is. So if using both you have to maintain separate libraries in separate folders and import new stuff and make changes to both separately.

What Matt is saying, is that if you want MC18 to store it's library in a location other than it's default you'll need to do a custom install. By default it will copy the MC17 library to the default MC18 location.

It does.

After installing MC 18 and configure it on all my computers, can I uninstall MC17 without any problem? Is there possible to have some instructions to follow?
Best regards

Yes. They should behave like separate programs.
For example, I keep at least the last 3 major versions installed on my work machine.
