Title: HELP! Accidentally Deleted a Genre
Post by: billg on September 21, 2012, 03:10:58 pm
This removed a big bunch of files from the library.
Can anyone help me find out which ones and how to restore them into the library.

Thanks

You could restore a library backup.  The program makes them automatically.

Or you could run import and uncheck 'Ignore files previously removed from library.'

Hi Matt. Thanks for these ideas.

It's a pity the undo function didn't work after I deleted the genre.

I have been doing a lot of library maintenance and the latest backup is 2 weeks old.
Also I have removed a lot of unwanted files from the library it would take a lot of work to identify and remove them manually.

I've been trying to figure out how to get a list of the files from the current library and backup library into Excel so I can compare them.
This should identify the missing files and I can manually restore them.

Any ideas on this?

Wierd. I backed up the library and did the import. It said no new files were imported but the files have reappeared. So has trhe missing genre.
Im obviously happy with this but don't know why its fixed. Maybe the Ctrl-Z worked after all but the page wasn't refreshed. A couple of other genre edits were undone as well (I had hit ctrl-Z a few times in frustration).
Alls well that ends well.

If your backup is old (the program should make them every couple days), just import the files again.  You shouldn't lose any metadata.
