Title: mc18 hangs
Post by: bigmun01 on September 24, 2012, 11:40:56 am
I just upgraded to mc 18' and it works fine with the exception of hanging up frequently. How soon do you anticipate correcting this problem? It is not a major issue, just a bit of a distraction.

It shouldn't hang.  Try using MC's logs (under Help) to see what you can learn.  The times are in milliseconds.

This is still occurring. I have checked the logs, which tell me nothing. Playing the exact same music from the same hard drive on MC17 does not result in this problem.

Try renaming this file to file.tmp:

1074113: 6076: Import: JRAnalyzer::AddFile: Filename: J:\Clapton\Eric Clapton\Pilgrim\02 Eric Clapton - River Of Tears.wav

Something is taking 140,000 ms over and over.

Sorry to be dull, but I don't understand. After reading your reply, I replayed this song from the same playlist. It didn't hang at all. As usual, the hangs are seemingly random-not always in the same place or in the same songs. That's what makes it so frustrating.

A random hang isn't a good sign.  It could be a hard disk problem or other computer issue.

Try turning off auto import (assuming it's enabled) and see if MC gets more stable.

I was experiencing repeated MC hangs for a long time as well and finally turning off auto-import ended up fixing it for me.  I am leaning towards the conclusion that the problem was specifically related to auto-import from the My Music folder not located on the default C: drive under Win 7 (I think MC may not always play nicely with symbolic links).  I have not re-enabled auto-import as I ran out of time to keep messing with things.

That's why I mentioned in an earlier post that, using MC17 on the same computer from the same hard drive and everything else the same, it doesn't hang at all, and never did.

Does it only hang when playing audio?

What if you leave it sit overnight not playing?

If it's only during playback, try different audio output modes (WASAPI - Event Style is often best).

I use wasapi event style exclusively. I will leave it on overnight without playing.
