Title: Output Mode

Can anyone explain the advantages or disadvantages of the different ouput modes e.g WASAPI Direct etc.   I am at the moment sending digital sound from my PC across optical to speakers with a 24-192 dac in them usually FLAC for audio. Is there any documentation explaining what they are etc.
