A nice feature I'd like to see added is the ability to have MediaJukebox create .sfv files after it does a rip. It'd be nice if it could automatically make a .sfv of the whole album for me as well as a .m3u playlist file.

I wouldn't imagine they'd take that much work to add.

Thanks

This one installs and runs fine on XP Home.  It was also installed on Win98SE and on Win2K Pro before release.

Sleep timer still not working properly. The time now flickers on and off the screen.
Nice new skin by the way. You should include all the old skins with each version. Where can I download the old skins from??

Oh yeah, one other thing. I'm glad you've added:  'numberplays=' but could u add this as a column we can view? Or if it is added as one I cant seem to find it. I checked under options and there's no sign of it. It'd be an option I'd love to have, as well as:  importeddate=

Sorry for so many posts but I cant see any way to amend previous ones.

Found another bug - while searching for skins I applied some of the ones in the skin manager (the default one appears blank in the preview window).

Applied them both and neither of them render properly. The title bars dont render and just display as black until I move my mouse over them.

Build 254 looks great. I can switch to blue again. Cool. By the way, I dont know if you guys have noticed that if you are in start browsing this newsgroup and you click playing now, MJ crashes!. I can reproduce this behavior everytime I am browsing and listening mpcs. Bug, maybe. No big deal but is there, like a bug destroying the logic gates of my existence . Please remove them from your MegaSkins folder.

Soon new version of Extra Blue will be available on our skin page.

Also for the old skins used those were created only to satisfy the current build and ease the pain of all blue until others were created. The old skins require some changes and would like to put the time into creating new skins instead of updating the older ones, sorry. Plus the ones in progress are alot better Next Page.

I already made another skin, was not in this release. Still needs a few changes. I will update it and maybe put it up for download later this weekend. I will have more during next week. Plus we have other great skinners like Treetrog, working on some. So far they look very nice.

JimH, I get MJ crashed when I am inside start(Browsing this news group, playing mpcs) and I click the playing now button in the upper middle of MJ. If you guys dont get the crash, I am very happy because the problem should be somewhere in my system. By the way I get BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH when I go to settings/options/recorder settings/auto and hit start test. I noticed that the blue screen reffers to my SANTA CRUZ drivers. I have XP Prof. amd Santa Cruz sound card. Thanks, for let me know.

Is this going to be standard practice from now on? I know all about the warnings posted above. So I don't need to hear about everyone taking the bullet for MJ and how it is a beta blah blah blah. Hope no one hurt themselves patting their back for the good deed they had done by reminding everyone. We know how to read, understanding may be something else entirely. Anyway, to prevent some frustration from many who do not have some of the newer operating systems, this would be well appreciated. If it didn't work on a certain o.s. that the warning could be put up to prevent or at least let us know that a pass may be in order for a particular build.

MachineHead,

I think JimH is talking about his home computers.

We tested latest build of MJ on Win 95, Win 98, Win ME, Win 2K and Win XP.

Do you have any major problems running lates build of MJ?

MEGA-ME Skinning Bug:
1. With MEGA-ME skinning on, F2 (rename) does not paint the screen correctly in the Content List (right window)...I think I've listed plenty of details on this (try it, you'll see the confusion/mess I'm talking about).

Nikolay,

No problems with current build. I was just curious because I noticed Jim had mentioned testing on different operating systems in the last few builds. And in this case, before release. So, could a note of an unfriendly with " X " operating system for a certain build be implemented?

Just installed the new beta on my laptop and it seems that the volume slider is not visible. Moving the cursor over it displays "VOLUME N/A". Any thoughts on why the slider is not visible?

This beta is much more stable than 252. Skinning now works better.

There are no unfriendly OSs for MJ Next Page

There were some problems with MJ and some OSs in previous builds, but you have to realize what an undertaking it was to create mega-me skinning engine in a week. I have couple more gray hairs on my head because of that Next Page

Pretty much the same bug report as the last 2 builds (hint, hint Next Page)

Bugs

Analyzing Devices : This comes up way too often. I liked it much better when it only showed up when I actually opened the Devices branch (although even then I have to wonder what the point of it is - isn't it obvious that when I open the devices branch that MJ is going to analyze them?).

MJ doesn't remember the position of the Tree View\Content View slider bar.

Video Playback : MJ plays video back all funky. It's only showing the upper left corner of the video.

Send To : Send To only shows playlists that are one level down in the tree. If you have a playlist within a group within a group, you can't access it via Send To.

Send To : Send To doesn't cascade nested playlist groups the same way that Quick Play does.

MEGA-ME Skinning : Resizing MEGA-ME is really choppy and there are flashes of the transparent color in transparent areas.

MEGA-ME Skinning : The File Properties progress box that comes up when you load up a bunch of files into File Properties isn't skinned.

MEGA-ME Skinning : Explorer Tree Views (Like when you browse for a location) look ugly because the folder icons aren't skinning correctly.

MEGA-ME Skinning : At least in the Tekno and Xylum skins, the top border goes off the top edge of the screen when MJ is maximized.

Track Info : The Edit Properties link no longer functions. Has this been changed or removed?

Remote Control : Next\Previous Playlists skip Smartlists.

Download Manager : I have DM set to autostart with Windows (minimized) and everytime I boot, I get this (Yes, even in 8.0.254):

Download Manager : This shuts down with no error message everytime I close Outlook XP.

Smartlists : MJ displays playlist ID numbers in Smartlists rules. It should clean that up to display the name of the playlist and leave the ID number in the background. The ID number should still be accessible though, because of my first request listed below.

Requests

Can the Remote Control portion of MJ be changed to accept a playlist ID number and have MJ play the corresponding playlist when it receives the right command?

Can the "Enlarge Menus" option be a seperate setting for Full Screen, MEGA-ME, Windowed, and mini-me? Or at least Full Screen from the other three?

Can the "Auto-Hide Bars" option be a seperate setting for Full Screen, MEGA-ME, and Windowed? This time I want it seperate for all three - the behavior I want in MEGA-ME (Auto-Hide OFF) is not the same as what I want for Full Screen and Windowed mode (Auto-Hide ON). Or I guess if MEGA-ME was just separate from the other two that would work for me too, but I imagine others would feel differently so maybe a separate option for every mode?

On the CD Burning box, can the Number of Copies text box get one of those up/down incrementer/decrementer things?

It would be really cool if every time MJ displayed a hyperlink that it would be clickable. I'm not looking for an automatic thing, I've just seen this behavior in the Plugin Manager and on the Import Media status box, and I thought it would be cool to have a live link for www.replaygain.org since you've listed that link in the Replay Gain Analyzer. Also a live link to the DSP plugin page in DSP Studio and a live link to the Vis plugin page in Vis Studio would be nice as well.

For a while I was just revelling in being able to play music. I'll do my job, now.
The only problem I have found so far is that MJ 8.0.254 is very sluggish. For example, when changing to "Playing Now", it takes about 5 seconds to stabilize the image. When resizing the window, there is a delay of about five seconds from the time you drag the edge bigger until it actually gets bigger. The visualizations are way behind. I would guess about 5 seconds.
Is it just me? Anyone else see this?

Machinehead,
> If it didn't work on a certain o.s. that the warning could be put up to prevent or at least let us know that a pass may be in order for a particular build.

Windows versions available to test:

Win95
Win NT 4.0
Win 98
Win 98 SE
Win 2000 Pro
Win 2000 Server
WinME
Win XP Home
Win XP Server

Then, depending on what version of IE you have installed, you have x times the above possibilities.

Our problem is that we have a choice between writing code and testing it.  Testing it can take infinitely more time.  Our solution is to test on several versions of Windows and then put it out to see what happens.  It isn't ideal, but it would be easier if there really was a Windows Operating System.

When using auto size columns there seems to be excessinve resizing. For example, switching to playing now seems to result in 2 redraws of the columns. It also occurs if you go into settings and then exit. If the columns are already sized correctly, why the redraw?

Just ripped Soulfly - Primative. First rip in a long time that nailed every track  on the first attempt. This was with the new version of Lame encoder. Great job here. However, still unable to get MPEG plus to go more then a few seconds before hang, not MJ mind you just the rip.

Just started playing with Media Server and I find that APE files don't stream?

When I connect, play doesn't start until the whole file is downloaded.

Is this a bug or just a fact of the APE format?

How to crash MJ.
1)  Select some files in the righthand (content?) window - hit [enter] or right click and select play.
2)  Select a playlist and hit [enter]
3)  Select an album and hit [enter]
Have to ctl-alt-del to get out but the system is unstable.  Tried to post the problem but as soon as I clicked on this thread IE6 locked up.

How to get MJ running just fine.
1)  file/play media file and everything works.

Select part of a list in the content window hit [enter] and the entire list is sent to playing now.

Mega-Me skins enabled and the title bar is scrunched down to about 2/3 its normal height.  Disable Mega-Me and the menu and icon bar come up with a white background.  Passing the mouse over them causes them to repaint correctly.

Settings/options/general/"disable media scheduler" still being ignored.  Even if I close Media scheduler prior to starting MJ, MJ statrs it up again.

Goto the item matching the initial letter with a keypress responds well in the content view pane but in the tree view pane its a pain - a 0ne and a Lawrence Welk and keypress, a one and a...

Try numberplays=>4. If you removed the "=" sign it probably won't work. I just tried it with, and it did fine.

Just to confirm what paulbailie said. If you use Ctrl-click to select multiple files you have to click a file (any after the first one you select) and then (while still holding ctrl) click on another song entirely before it will select the one you clicked on before.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module COMCTL32.DLL at 0167:bfbc5592.

Got this error message after changing the fonts and tree settings, then clicking DSP toolbar button. MJ was playing at the time.

Also: There is still flicker that is poking through the skin when in the options > playback menu. This has been in many builds.

Also: When selecting a new font the preview menu doesn't reflect changes. No preview. Skinning issue?

Also: Last night when I did my rip mentioned above, the album was initially shown where CD,DVD,& Handhelds is now. Restart of MJ seemed to cure this and place the album below in the proper spot. Album had not been played before.

Time bug still here..

Once the time hits 50:43, it counts back down (-50:42). It happens on various ape images, live streams, etc.

If ELAPSED_TIME is used in visualizations, the time above is display as -50:-42

TOTAL_TIME has a 0 (01:00:00) in the player window and not in visualizations for songs past an hour.

MEGA-ME Skinning : This doesn't appear to be too persistent. If I open up File Properties on 4000 files, and if I open another window over MJ while I'm waiting for MJ to open them all, the skin goes away and I can see the standard Windows title bar.

When ripping two CDs on XP, the first one went fine and then the second caused MJ to go nonresponsive. No updating of the CD drive contents, 'Rip CD' button not working. Other functions seemed to be fine though.

The overlay textbox when doing in-place editing is still misaligned to the right by a pixel or two. Still an interface problem there determining when you're editing or not, what's selected, where the cursor is, et al.

Bugs:
1. The Find & Replace dialog (Media File Properties) has double &'s in the titlebar (Find && Replace).
2. The Recently Imported icon (under the Playlists node in Org Tree) does not match the Recently Imported icon used for the toolbar...yet, the Recently Played icons do match.

Request:
1. Can Find & Replace support Album Artist too?
2. Can the Replace string support MJ known field names like ALBUM, ARTIST, etc?  So that you could use F&R to move/swap field values in each track.  Actually, swapping wouldn't work as implemented currently...you'd need a new swap two fields' values function.  Anyways, something to ponder (field swapping, moving and coping via F&R-like feature).

When I go into MJ and modify tag info or delete a track I have no problems, But when I try to delete an Artist name or album it goes alright up to the point that the message box pops up and says "updating data base" then MJ turns white and crashes and the default windows error reporting window opens.
Hope the SYS info isnt to much but I figured the more the better.

Posted above about toolbars needing to be moused over before colors were applied. This seems to be with all mega-me skins. Except default. Default has toolbar letters that are too dark. Tough to see.

Shawn - Is it posible to add a couple black pixels around the border of your skins when fully maximized? Thinking here is it might keep the skin from running off the edge of the screen. Right now, as mentioned above, all of your great looking borders are buried out of sight. Quick cure is to hit the restore button and drag all the sides to maximum. Which still leaves desktop below exposed slightly. Rather just max it out for now.

A minor irritation for several build now: When I have text labels enabled for the toolbar, they start out fully labled, but after a while I find these shortened: "Plug-In Ma...", "Import Me...", "Media Libr...".  I go to customize the toolbar, select "Show text labels", and they come back to full text.  But after a while they shorten up again.  BTW, there is plenty of room available to display all the buttons with the full label used.

This happens in Mega-Me with skinning disabled; it does not do this with a skin enabled.

I have a 7 tracks in Playing Now, track 6 of 7 is playing, track 6 has the speaker icon and the text is the current track color.  I sort the list by clicking on a column heading.  The currently playing song keeps the speaker icon, but whatever song is at the track 6 position has the current track color text while the currently playing song has normal color text.

When ripping two CDs on XP, the first one went fine and then the second caused MJ to go nonresponsive. No updating of the CD drive contents, 'Rip CD' button not working. Other functions seemed to be fine though.

I can't reproduce this here. Is anyone else having this problem? Severian, if you have the time could you do a little more testing to narrow down the problem? Try uncompressed wave to eliminate the encoder as the culprit, try different CD's, different copy modes. Does it always fail on the second CD?
Thanks!

I'm trying to update rating in tags and I keep getting crashes.  I update about 8-15 tags before it crashes.  I get a Visual C|PLS||PLS| MJ error and then a Windows kernel32 application error.

Here is what I do:
Select about 100 songs
Play the 100 songs
play each song and then change the rating in the properties menu.
usually I update the entire list before hitting ok and apply all the changes at once.

Now I can't get past 8-15 songs without it crashing.  It crashes when I hit the next song botton on player controls.

sorry if this has been reported already

in media library, if i right-click on an artist folder (rather than a file(s) within the folder), and select "delete," mj crashes every time. the other right-click folder options work fine

also, the ctrl-key function for selecting individual songs doesn't work consistently (e.g. select first item--it's highlighted, select second item while holding ctrl key, get a line made up of dashes around the second file and right-clicking functions only bring up fist highlighted file, but ctrl-click a third file and 75% of the time, the second file gets highlighted, so you then have to ctrl-click a forth file to actually highlight the third file, but during the 25% of the time that the second file didn't get highlighted by selecting the third file, selecting a forth won't get the third one highlighted. Shift-key highlighting works fine.

Seems there is a bug concerning the new version of MonkeysAudio Encoder or the plugin: Files encoded with the newest version don't play alright. They 'hang' on many positions like a CD with a scratch: A part of about half a second is repeated over and over. WinAmp plays those files perfectly.

Just tried to burn with this version.
First attempt, since it MJ8 went blue.
Having problems selecting one of the
burners.  Have 3, two select OK.

One I have problem with, does get
selected OK under Settings/Options,
but when I go to Burn, MJ shows the
other Burner on the same IDE ribbon,
which is a Plextor.

The problem burner is Iomega.  Seems
it worked OK in earler version of MJ.

Can I supply any other info?

Recurrence of an old bug which had gone away early in the betas of version 8, but has resurfaced in the last few builds (I apologize I didn't catch exactly which one).  If I set up a fairly long playlist, start it a-playin, minimize MJ (to system tray or task bar), and then return to MJ some songs later, the tracks displayed in playing now no longer include the song which is actually playing now, but rather has jumped ahead several tracks of the song currently playing (3 to be exact; e.g., I start playing song #109 with this song smack in the middle of the playing now display, minimize MJ, restore when song #110 has started, and song #113 and below are shown in the playing now window).

Also, likely unrelated; if two entries of the same song are in the playing now list (for instance, at slot #1 and #736), I may start playing at entry #1, but the next song to play will be #737.

Visualization "Text" - TextLocationEquation doesn't work for y1=-x (negative) values for Center/Bottom. x1 works though. Haven't tried the others.

Durgame-
Just tried to burn with this version.
First attempt, since it MJ8 went blue.
Having problems selecting one of the
burners. Have 3, two select OK.

If you email me at johnt@jriver.com, I can send you a diagnostic program that might shed light on the problem.

Thanks,

MJ is crashing everytime I try to delete an album from the left tree.  It says Updating Library, then crashes.  I have 4193 files.  I can delete songs from an album no problem, it's when I delete the album that it crashes.
