Title: cable card support?
Post by: coderego on October 19, 2012, 11:56:39 am
As a comcast customer, I need my tv tuner to support cable cards!

I'd like to be able to plug in my coax, and:
1) share live tv across the network, giving each HTPC the option to have its own chanel
2) record live tv
3) interact with comcast on demand menus.
4) current live broadcast program seraching and filtering for live tv

All through jriver media servers and clients. Is this supported in 18?

Was thinking of this card:

Thanks!!

I am interested in this as well, but more specifically, I use 2 different tuners - HD Home Run (clear QAM) and HD Home Run Prime 3CC (copy freely). I am looking for when I will be able to setup and use all 5 tuners to watch live and recorded TV across multiple clients (currently using 3).

I'm still using SageTV, but for how long....

Yes.. With the latest revisions that Comcast has done (scrambled a lot of SD QAM) there is only a few channels left to get with QAM. A cable card is in my future, and I hope to keep MC as TV device.. I am trying really, really hard to transfer over to MC for TV.

FWIW... I really, really like my HD-PVR.

No DRM.

Time Warner sets many of their channels to No Copy all the time with CableCard devices.  Junk.

How does the HD-PVR integrate with MC??

It does work, but I don't know as I'm still on Sage.

I'm also planning to switch, but lazy.

Between the HDHR3CC and the HDPVR, Ill have the HDHR3CC any day! Setup 1 device and have 3 working tuners. Don't have the (3) STB to deal with. Only get charged $2.50 for single CC vs $30 for 3 HD STB.

The bad part, yes the cable co can change the copy flag as will and without reason (except local/must carry channels). The only channels I have had any issues with have been NBC Universal channels (USA, SYFY, MSNBC, CNBC and some others), which are now copy never on Suddenlink (thanx NBC. All because of the Olympics)...

I know the Ceton InfiniTV 4 has a web interface.. I wonder if that could be incorporated easily...

bump! Is this being considered? The Centon InfiniTV 4 would be an AWESOME addition to JRiver!

There is a reasonable chance we'll have this working for non-encrypted streams soon.

but most channels would be carrying DRM so recording will not be possible? Right?

That is the reason I am actually using OTA [Off The Air] so I can record whatever I want...
