Title: Metadata sent by server
Post by: Mike48 on October 23, 2012, 12:57:13 am
I'm using MC17 in my audio system -- no video involved. I'm pretty new to networked audio. I have MC running on a PC in my office, the music is stored on that PC, and the renderer is a PS Audio network DAC in my sound system upstairs.

Can I choose what metadata the MC sends to the DLNA controller (Gizmo or UPnPlay)? I was happy to find that MC sends the Composer tag and that UPnPlay displays it. Can I have it send other fields?  In particular, I would like to send the People tag, which I use to store personnel for jazz.

In another attempt to do something like that, I tried using Tremote, with a laptop in the music room running MC. On the server PC, the Playing Now screen's Track Info feature displays the People field. (I edited the files for the "Noire" scheme to include the People field.)  But I can't seem to bring up the Track Info at all on the laptop. Is that not available to a Tremote client, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

The UPnP standard defines what meta data fields can be exchanged and mutually understood. The standard includes: Title, Year, Album, Track Nr, Album Art, Genre, Artist (AlbumArtist & Contributors), Author (Composer), Duration, and MC supports all of them.

Thanks, Andrew! If you wanted to pass more information -- such as musicians other than the "artist" on a jazz recording -- how would you tag the track in MC to make this possible?

Tag them as Contributors (Contributing Artists).

Tip: before embarking on a major re-tagging operation for your whole library, try out a few variations on a few files first...
