Hi there,
I have an old computer that I am turning into a HTPC. Everything is up and running except for the remote control part of it.
This may sound like a dumb question but I am unsure what hardware to get in order to control the box.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

As long as you have a USB IR receiver, practically any remote will do the job.
I use this (http://www.amazon.com/URC-Universal-Control-Components-Favorite/dp/B001KC08A4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351264559&sr=8-1&keywords=universal+remote) one and really like it. I bought the IR receiver alone via eBay and I think it came from this (http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Control-Infrared-Receiver-Ultimate/dp/B00224ZDFY/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1351264594&sr=1-2&keywords=usb+ir+receiver) kit.

I like the Adesso ARC-1100 MCE Infrared Remote Control. Its designed for Windwos Media Center, but will work with JRiver. Just plug it in and it works (for Vista/Win7); no programming or software installation required (Windows automatically installs the drivers). There is third party software that would let you reconfigure the buttons if needed (for example making the Start button launch JRiver instead of WMC). It has a mouse pad too which most do not; comes in handy when things go wrong.
