I have not fooled around with this and I am not sure I understand all involved, but the settings are the following for the DLNA server:
Video settings: Never Convert
Advanced:
DLNA: check
DLNA Extra: check
MPEG Video Mimetype override: check
Video MimeType override: video/mpeg
Video DLNA Override: MPEG_PS_NTSC
The file I am trying to play is Toy Story, and all video files are native "VOB" files.
Do I need to change the movie to a single mpeg/equivalent? Is there a setting that can play the movie to the TV?
Thanks for any help.

Would you first try updating to 17.0.189?
There was an issue with DLNA crashing fixed in 17.0.188

Did that. The crash issue disappeared. Now the TV just shows:
"Unsupported file format"
Which would be the preferred way to take care of this? Should I enable video conversion? To mp4, or something else?

Try mpeg2/dvd or mpeg2/dvd pal (depending on your region).
