In previous MC versions, I found the Auto Import in the background very handy. I used to copy a few directories containing Music Albums or new movies to the directory tree included in my Auto Import settings, and after a while they appeared in the Library.
With MC18 this doesn't happen any more.
I have to manually import the new directories/files.
Is there a parameter adjusting this functionality somewhere? How is MC supposed to sense new files?
Thanx!

MC18 still has the same auto-import system.
It is available under Options > Library & Folders, or directly via Tools > Import.

It doesn't work on my setup. Is it a known bug?
That's why I am asking how it works. Does it search the configured directories for changes every say 10 minutes? Is there a different mechanism?
Knowing the process could help me pinpoint the problem.
Thanx!

Nope. Working fine here.

No, it isn't timer-based.
It runs automatically a short period after the application launches initially (I'm not sure of the delay). Then, in regular operation, it responds to the filesystem change metadata provided by Windows. The same way Dropbox knows files changed in your dropbox. Something like this system:

Are you absolutely sure the files aren't being imported?
It is possible that they are being imported, but are being "hidden" because of filters on the views you're looking at. Or, perhaps they're already imported, but somehow got tagged as the wrong Media Type or something.
A more thorough description of your situation might help us track down the problem for you. Screenshots of the Auto-Import options dialog, along with a description of the views you're looking at, and if it is a new-blank Library, or an existing one, or something like that.

Please double check your auto import settings. Tools/Options/Import, then auto import, then edit the folders to see which file types you're importing.

I will do that, but is there a different process when MC auto imports in the background, compared to when I run "Library --> Import --> Auto Import Now"?
Because this way all files are imported normally...
It is just the background import than doesn't seem to work....

I see....
The files are located an a Synology NAS. Is there some kind of a setting in Windows that disables this monitoring function?

Try a search here and at Google for a recent thread about Synology firmware problems. It was about a month ago or so.

I am not sure I can upload screenshots for some reason... I select two .jpg files (70-84 kbytes each) , but I cannot seem to find the upload button....
However, I reinstalled MC18 and it seems to work now. I 'll keep monitoring....
Thanx!
EDIT: Managed to upload pics...
