Title: lalittle - changed email and password - can't log in anymore.
Post by: matsukaze ninja on November 20, 2012, 06:50:43 pm
I'm writing this from my brother's username because after editing my email address and password last night, I cannot login to the forums with my own username, which is lalittle (I've been a member of the forums for almost 10 years, and have made nearly 4000 posts on the jriver forums.)  After making the changes, the system said it needed to verify the new email address, but I never received the confirmation email.  I hit the "need another activation email" link several times over the last 12 hours, but I never received the emails to my gmail account (yes -- I checked the spam folder.)  I also used the "resend activation code" page, making absolutely sure to correctly enter the new email address as instructed, but I still haven't received any emails from the system, which keeps telling me that the email needs to be validated.

I then tried to create a new username using my wife's email (which is a yahoo email) from a different computer.  The system once again said it needed to confirm the email address, but I once again received no confirmation email.  In other words, it seems like the email verification system isn't working for some reason given that it didn't work with two different usernames, using two different email systems (gmail and yahoo), on two completely different systems.

How do I get things working again?  Please let me know if you need to me to proceed via email or private messaging (instead of an open discussion on these forums) so I can get my forum name working again, and so I can get my wife's forum name working as well.  Note that my previous email is still active, so I can still access it as well as the new one.

Thanks,

Larry (lalittle)

Thanks for the fast reply.

I sent the email (which I assumed ended with .com.)

I got your reply.  I think something is grabbing the activation e-mails.

I got another report today of activation emails not working.

I'll ping Bob.

Just to update, I took another shot at getting an activation email just now, and I received the message:

An Error Has Occurred!

A new activation email has successfully been sent.

It looks like one part of the system is aware of a problem, but the "success" message is still being sent.

I'm not getting forum replies, in case there is any relationship.

I think it's fixed. I'm testing it by trying to get a notification from this thread...

It looks good. I resent all of the activation messages too. Thanks for the heads-up.

Good here.
Title: Re: lalittle working, but can't get wife's account activated -- stuck in loop.
Post by: lalittle on November 21, 2012, 05:03:50 pm
Okay -- as you can see from this message, my account (lailttle) is back to working again!  Thanks for fixing that.

Unfortunately, I am still unable to get the OTHER account I tried to set up under my wife's name (splittle) working.  I can't activate it because the activation email never gets sent.  The "did you miss the activation email" feature (i.e. "resend activation code") tells me the email is already in use and that I should use the password reminder.  On the password reminder page, when I try to use the "secret question," it tells me that there isn't one for this member.  When I try to have a new password sent to me, it says "Sorry, this account has not yet been activated," and instructs me to go back to the "resend activation code" page, which of course starts the loop over.

In other words, it's stuck in a loop where it won't send an activation code because the email is "in use," but it won't send a new password without first being activated.  Is there any way "force" the activation code to be sent to the email for the splittle account?

It's probably important to note that if anyone tried to sign up for a forum account during the time that this problem was occurring (last few days?), they are likely stuck in a similar loop as well, with no way to get their preferred email address to work, and no way tell anyone that this is happening without starting over with a different email address.

Once again, thanks for getting my account working again, and thanks for helping me get the splittle account sorted out.
