Title: proper output settings for 24bit HD

I'm using MC17, but I always upgrade ... so I thought this query may be pertinent for versions 18 & 17 ...

I've just begun purchasing a few HD (e.g., SACD) albums and I have not yet figured out why MC17 is refusing to play them via my current settings, which is to mix stereo to 5.1 via JRSS?  Why is it that MC is able to do this with 16bit but gags on 24bit(?)  Am I missing something (e.g., MC18)?

EDIT: other relavent info might include WASAPI audio out ...
