Here is a weird one.
I created a playlist consisting of JPG and MOV files from my Canon S100.
During play directly (not a DLNA client) on two different new Windows 7 builds, in both MC18 and MC17, playback freezes when transitioning from a JPG to an MOV.
That freeze log is attached.
The issue also occurs when transitioning between two JPGs.
Both issues are easily reproduced.
PS. I love MC. Keep up the good work.

I can't reproduce this.
How are you switching between files? Keyboard, remote, etc.?
Anyone else seeing this?

It occurs while "playing" the playlist, as in pressing the play button in MC.
Play automatically switches to full screen mode.
Crash occurs either when allowing play to automatically advance from the JPG to the MOV.
Or when manually skipping forward using the next button on my MC remote.
It also occurs in Theatre Mode, but that is likely the same as full screen?
MOVs do play fine if they are selected individually, so the CANON? codecs seem to be functioning correctly.
Did the log show nothing (assuming you got it)?
I will reproduce the JPG to JPG version of this crash and send that log as well.

The log shows it crash, but it's not clear why.
Would you try the test build I linked here and see if it still crashes:
