Just got me a new toy. I like it:

Two In/Four Out. Balanced or unbalanced, and the ins include phantom power, a line/instrument switch, mic preamps, and a nice trim control.
They have other models too that go up to 24 channels I think, but I only needed the little one (actually, there is one "below" this version that is a simple 2/2 model).
I'm quite happy with it. Works perfectly on both Windows and OSX with no fiddling required. Very low noise, and works well with my shotgun mics, condensers, and other "fancy" systems. Plus, it looks pretty cool.

Hah! As-if it matters.
Work paid for it. I might grab one for myself too, though, if I ever need one for not-remotely-work-related-purposes. It wasn't expensive (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/892515-REG/Focusrite_Scarlett_2i4_USB_Audio.html) and it is very nice.

Oops, I was wrong. They have one that does 28/28:

It is Firewire-only, though. Not surprising since USB2 is a fairly limited and high-latency bus.
The biggest USB Scarlett they have (like mine) is an 18-in/6-out model (http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-18i6).
