Title: AVG problem with JRiver
Post by: MartiNation on December 19, 2012, 10:37:57 am
A short while ago my AVG antivirus went defensive against JRiver media center, claiming to have discovered several severe threats in a lot of .dll and .exe files all related to JRiver Mediacenter. I don’t really know what to make of this since I completely trust J river?
I've uninstalled and downloaded 18.0.97 installer; but when extracting I keep getting the threat message from AVG. I had to disable to program in order to complete the installation and it seems I must to keep AVG permanently disabled in order to run the program, otherwise AVG will simply remove most of the media center..

Here's a screenshot of the error:

It's a false positive in AVG.

I ran the JRTools.dll from the build through this online checker:
https://www.virustotal.com/

Only AVG triggers (1 of 45).

Please notify AVG, as this will cause us a lot of grief.

Thank you Matt.
I've now reported the issue to AVG's "false alarm" formula together with the 18.0.97 installer attatched ;)

Thanks for reporting it to them.  I also reported it.

I've been trying to change random, meaningless things in the code to see if we can get around the false-positive, but so far no luck.

It's not great timing, because we were hoping to mail to all our users in a couple days.

Same problem. Thanks for the help Matt. I'm going to uninstall AVG and go with MSE for a while, because...wait for it:

I like MC18 better than any anti-virus software.  :)

Please advise if there is a Trojan here or not called "henri". The update came in through the normal update inside the MC software. Please see attached screenshot.

Thx for the help. I placed some file and folder exceptions into AVG, and for the past 20 minutes or so AVG and MC are coexisting with no virus warnings.

I'll update if anything changes.
