Title: MC18 and dumb portable payer
Post by: tsmoke on December 21, 2012, 01:21:42 pm
I have a question about portable devices. Is there way to export play list to such device with file names modified to include sequence number?
I have dumb player (audio system in my car) which can only play files from folder in alphabetical order. Maybe there is a field like Sequence# I can use in Audio Path expression in Handheld definition?

The problem with this approach is that it is copying original files which can be flac, ogg or anything and the dumb player understands only mp3. Anyway its better than nothing.

Thanks.

Since you need conversion, I think this is a two step operation now.

1. Use HH sync or Conversion to create the files you want, probably from a playlist.  Include the converted files in the MC libray.
2. Use the Rename, Copy & Move tool to rename the resulting files.

Handheld conversion has an option to prepend numbers.

Where is this?

Right.

This has long been a challenge for users.

It would be nice if:

  - Conversion would support File Locations (yielding expression-based filename rules)  #4 in my list (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=68410.0).

  - HH Sync used the same Conversion engine settings (probably requires maintaining a mapping of original filenames to synced filenames), so that convert/sync operations could create different destination filenames.

  - Data CD Burning options Custom Rule used [Seq] instead of having the Prefix the list order to the CD filename option (so that custom padding could be easily supported - eliminates an option, and makes filename rule consistent with other places in the program).  Also, add it as a Preset in said dialog.  For that matter, just use the File Locations concept to replace Disc Folder Naming, Disc File Name sub-menus, and use the Rename, Copy & Move dialog Preset concept to replace Save Folder Structure and Load Folder Structure.

I know... I ask too much (but typically as gifts to others).  :-)  Consistency is so much more self-documenting.
