- What exactly does "Maximize hardware volume on playback" do? I.e. which particular hardware are we talking about here?
- In what respect does "Mute on Start" differ, in practice, from "play silence at startup for hardware synchronization"?
Thanks

The playback hardware.

Mute on start was an experiment to see if it helped the DSD/PCM transition click on some DACs. I was working with a manufacturer when I added it. The option didn't help, so it's possible we'll remove it at some point in the future.

Thanks for that - it's so long since I used any internal sound hardware (I use USB) that I was wondering how you were planning to control my hardware....
...OK, you can adjust the volume of some USB audio hardware, but that can be a dangerous game, a bit like the gas pedal getting stuck down :o
