Title: MC 18 new install problems with MP3 files freezing, stuttering

Hi everyone.  First post to this forum.  I have been using MC since v 14.  I have never had any real issues until I installed MC 18.  Here's the problem:

While playing MP3 files, MC locks up and the file starts stuttering when there's about 8 seconds left of a file to play.  This occurs randomly within any given playlist or manual file selection and there's always about 8 seconds of file play left when it stutters.  I first attributed this with a conflict with a new install of Norton 360.  I uninstalled the Norton and the problem did not go away.  I uninstalled MC 18 and re-installed MC 17 with no problems.  HELP!

It does sound like a problem reading the next file, which an AV program could cause.  I'm sorry but I don't have any other ideas.  The "Weird Problems" thread (linked in my signature) might provide more ideas.

As a test, try DirectSound output and turning off memory playback (both options in Options > Audio).

Does that make any difference?

Re-installed MC 18.  Checked the audio settings and default setting set to Direct Sound.  30 hours of no stuttering.  Not sure what the problem was at the get go but it seems to have resolved itself.  The only thing different I did was not uninstall MC 17 after the 18 install.  Thanks for the help guys!
