Hi,
I'm new in the JRiver Community and I just bought JR MC 18 (18.0.101 installed).
It looks like a very versatile tool.
For now, I've 1 major issue, 1 minor issues and a remark.
Major issue:
When playing a video from my media library (mkv encoded in 720p or 1080p), the video freezes after 20s/30s.
The movie counter still runs...
It's not a problem of CPU as I'm always below 10% with Red October Standard.
I've no graphics card, just use the Intel HD4000 chip from my processor (Intel i7 3770T + Mother board Gigabyte z77mx-3dh + Windows 7 64 bits).
I'm up to date (use latest stable) in term of bios, drivers, system.
I collected a trace of the problem with the JRiver debugger (I will post the link shortly).
I will appreciate your help guys.
Minor issue:
I created some customized views for my videos (like movies, series, manga, ..).
The problem is I'm not able to see them either in the theater view or JRemote.
How to get them visible ?
Remark:
Yesterday I tried to watch a BluRay... JRiver notified me I need to installer either AnyDVD HD or DVDFab PassKey to read it....
Maybe it's something in connection with DRM but I'm surprised we need to byu a third party software (50$) to read BluRay in JRiver... :o
Thanks.
Update:
Here below the link for logs.

Welcome to the forum.
Some Blu-ray discs are "protected" and MC cannot read them.
Try the latest build. It's 18.0.103, at the top of this board.
Turn hardware acceleration on and off.
See Theater View settings for customization.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
What about my issue ? It happens for all kind of video : Bluray disc, mkv, ...
Everything is fine when using VLC so it s not a hardware or a system issue.
Latest build just add a fix for German lang, not sure this will get things better for me.
PS: i ve installed DVDFab Passkey and MC is now able to read BluRay disc but it freezes after 20-30sec or 1min max.... Like all the video type I try to read.
update:
I tried to re-install MC + some tests without any antivirus. Still have the same issue.
Would it be possible someone from staff to have a look on my logs (posted above).
-
New log takes on a short video sequence. Problem happens 8-9 sec after starting to play video.

Try 103. Try hardware acceleration off or on.

Try 103. Try hardware acceleration off or on.
Just to be sure, where to specify HW acceleration ?
I m going to reinstall everything (Windows, drivers, MC).
thx
-
Options has a search at the bottom.
It's in the video section.
-
Hi,
I have re-installed everything : Windows7 64 bits SP1, drivers, MC.
Same issue... With or without HW acceleration.
I really need a dev or a JRiver employee to have a look on my case. How to contact them?
I suppose it's quite easy to point out the problem with the logs I've posted.
Thx
-
They're hard to find.
-
When the freeze happens, CPU may be low, but how ,uh system memory is being used? When I had similar issues, memory was at 95 or so %.

I have spent money in this software, I hope there is a support from them !!!
Do you know how to contact them (email adress or nickname on the forum) ?
Thx

When the problem happens, CPU down to 0. Memory is not released but it still < at 50%.

I'm from JRiver. You have an odd problem that we don't recognize. I'm sorry. I've told you what I know.
And it is a holiday here, so other people aren't available.
-
Is this with one video or several? It sounds to me like an improperly encoded video.
-
Also, if you have your video stored on a NAS or USB connected storage, or anything else where file is not on the same computer as MC, try moving one file to drive/computer where MC is to rule out a file transfer issue.
-

The same issue happens for bluray, mkv, .... Either local or remote files.
Tomorrow, I will try to change of screen.
I currently test this on my Samsung Syncmaster and will move to my plasma Kuro.
I doubt this can be a problem of screen.
-
I doubt too that it is the screen. Most likely the settings you choice in MC. Are you using Audio>WASAPI Event Style?
Do you run the video/audio to an AVR or just straight to the display (using TV speakers)?
I had a similar freeze problem that was due to network settings (I stream my video from server to client). That's why I suggested you try to play the movie directly from the "C:" drive (or whatever you call the main drive on your computer).
-
Is the audio codec in these DTS_MA by any chance?
I'm trying to troubleshoot a similar random freeze at the moment, although mine are totally random throughout a rip.
I've got a nasty suspicion this started with a LAV update somewhere (The HTPC was on a build around 50, then auto-updated), but I haven't got as far as pinpointing what's wrong :)
(Files are fine, I've md5 summed with the original source, and the freezes aren't in consistent places. Also tried with remote and local files)

Hi,
I tried both default or customized settings ... same issue.
For now, my HTPC is in my office room as long as it's still under construction.
So I did not test audio for now. But my sound card is a RME AES HDPSe with a great Asio driver.
I tried to set up Audio --> Asio or Audio --> "Windows Sound" ... Same issue.
For the test with the file in local (C: or D:) I already tested it... Same problem.

I tried almost all existing audio Format : AC4, Dolby, DTS, DTS MA, ... Same issue.
Maybe I should try JMRC v17 instead of v18.
-
Have you tried with MC17 to see if it could fix yor issue ? ?
-
Have you tried with MC17 to see if it could fix yor issue ? ?
Not yet.
Some guys here are thinking about an audio issue.
I've two "audio cards" here in the HTPC : The VIA chipset built into the mother card and the RME (PCIe audio card).
Maybe I should I desactivate one of them...
The easiest way would be a JRiver dev takes a look on my logs...
-
The problem is that it's Christmas ;)
IIRC JR went on holiday last friday, and probably won't be back till thursday or friday this week. Anyone answering at the moment is doing so in their own free time :o
As you say you're using AISO, I'd be inclined to try and test with just the default Windows audio stack; We've certainly seen cards with buggy AISO drivers in the past.
I'm also very disinclined to try downloading anything from a filehost who require your email address to download, and specifically state they'll sell it to marketers (spammers). Try attaching your logs here or putting them on somewhere such as mediafire,

Hi,
I think I've pointed out the issue.
When setting up audio output to "null output", I've no freeze on the video.
This is a driver or a hardware related issue.
In the "output mode settings", I only have one possible option : "Asio Hammerfall DSP".
But how to know if it uses the RME sound card or the VIA chipset (integrated to the mother card).
I know both cards are installed and ready.
I doubt this is an issue with the Asio driver. RME is well known to build the most robust Asio drivers over the world.
This is a pro sound card.
-
Hi,
I was unable to make some tests because of lack of time.
The problem is still here !!
I tried all available audio modes : Asio, WASAPI, WASAPI ES, Direct Sound, ... All cause the same issue.
I tried differents settings in term of audio conf (change buffer size, sample rate, ...). This has no effect on the problem.
I tried with Media Player Classic, VLC, .. Everything works fine when using these players.
I really need the help of a JMRC dev in order to point what is going wrong.
Jim (or someone else from JRiver), can you please liaise with this ?
Regards.

I don't know what the problem is. 18.0.106 is available. It's worth trying.
-
Sorry for the extra questions, but the answers to these MAY help get your video working fine.
What CPU do you have, and which motherboard?
Do you have a video card e.g. Radeon, GeForce etc., or is it built into the CPU e.g. Intel HD 2000, 3000, 4000, AMD A4, A6, A8 etc.?
Do you have an AV Receiver with HDMI inputs?
Does Music play fine with your fancy sound card in JRiver?

Hi Jim,
As per the subject, I already upgraded to the latest version.
I see on some posts you ask the consumer to send logs for analyze. Not possible here ?
Regards.

Hi fitbrit ,
Processor is : Intel i7 3770T - HD4000
Motherboard is :Gigabyte z77mx-d3h
Audio board is : RME HDSPe AES (RME = the most robust audio drivers over the world, well known and well appreciate for that).
I don't have any video card installed, just use the HD4000 chipset.
GPU does not exceed 75% of load (and 55°C) with Jinc 3 taps (I tryed Lancoz, softcubic, .. same problem).
CPU doe not exceed 10% of load with a T°C < = 55°C.
I upgraded all drivers/bios to the latest stable.
My AV receiver is a Pioneer Kuro (plasma) equipped with an HDMI input. But the problem is the same with my PC screen (samsung synchmaster).
I have to confirm this with a test but when setting audio output to "null output", I don't have any problem on video.
Does Music play fine with your fancy sound card in JRiver?
Yes perfectly
Regards.

I too have a Kuro and was using just the Intel iGPU (3000 in may case) from the HTPC over HDMI (for video and sound). Have you tried setting Tools --> Options --> Video --> Video Mode to "Red October Standard"? If that works fine then it is an issue with the iGPU not being fast enough for madVR's settings. I could only use ROHQ if madVR was set to use MN for both scaling options else it would drop frames badly.
-

You can't assume that the audio driver is OK. Even companies with great reputations make mistakes.
If you have another sound device, it would be worth making a quick test.

I've no droped frame at all (CTRL-J to check when showing a video).
I tested both RO Standard and ROHQ.

Ok, good info, but I think you misunderstood me when I said AV receiver. I meant do you have a processor or amplifier that takes an HDMI input? Your i3 can output bit perfect sound as well as video. So if you were to connect the HDMI to a receiver, and then the receiver to your TV, we would have another way to test your system, bypassing the sound card ( and its drivers). With the new zoneswitch feature, you would even be able to automatically use this setup for movies and your sound card for audio only.
-

Okay, so problem is on Audio side. You said you have two audio cards/sources. I would remove or deactivate the card that is using ASIO drivers and try with built in audio using WASAPI- Event Style (then Direct Sound). Make sure Bitstreaming is set to None.

Yes, except he has three sound devices, including the simplest built-in one in the CPU. (HD4000).
Now all depends on how he's amplifying the sound- analog or digital/HDMI.

I tried either with VIA chipset or RME card, same problem.
Bitstream is set to off (it's the default setting).

Yes, there are 3 sound devices available in the devices manager.
Sound outptut is digital (PCM) but not over HDMI (I use either spdif or AES).
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
I noticed something strange.
The output video format is always "p50" (it's the default setting set in the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel).
Yesterday, I tried to run a Bluray encoded in 1080i59.94. My scaler (Lumagen Radiance), placed between the HTPC and my display, shows 1080p50. It should shows 1080i60 according to JMRC / MadVR settings (see below).
However, I correctly set things in the Display Settings (and well ticked "enable automatic display settings changing") + video clock activated.
23.976 fps --> 23
24 fps --> 24
29.97/59.94 --> 59
25/50 --> 50
From MadVR point of view, desinterlacing is set to OFF.
How come ??
-
Remove the scaler from the setup. Do you still get the video freezes?
-

From the MadVR setup ?
I tried testing my HTPC without the Lumagen (HTPC --> Display), same issue.
But on MadVR, I've 2 display known and actives : Lumagen (known as digital processor) and my TV/Plasma.
-
Hi,
To summarize, I've for now 2 issues.
I'm sure we will get rid of them. JRiver, MadVR, LaV are keys success :)
1st : Issue with interlaced videos.
Config: i7 / HD4000 + MC 18 (ROHQ + MadVR deinterlacing off).
When playing an interlaced video (1080i23 for exemple), the signal at the output of my HTPC shows 1080p60.
I agree with "60" because it matches with my JMRC video setup (29,97Hz and 59.94Hz --> 60Hz).
But I do not understand where the deinterlacing processing is done on my HTPC (set to off on MadVR).
Do you have an explanation ?
My need is to let my scaler do the interlaced (i) to progressive (p) proccessing. This will mitigate the GPU/CPU load.
2nd : Freeze after x seconds or minutes.
I will receive my DA converter next week. So it will able me to do some audio listening checks. For now, I'm not able to say how the sound is (audio card has only digital inputs / outputs). I will let you know how things are then.

Hi Jim,
18.0.106.
-
Can you please post your full audio path?
Where is the sound going? What is amplifying it and how is it connected? e.g. optical, RCA etc. Do you have an HDMI capable sound receiver e.g. something made by Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony etc., or are you using (a) separate power amplifier(s)?

There is a potential issue here. 1080i23 refers to interlaced video at 23.976 fps. This should have its own MC video setup entry, and the "(29,97Hz and 59.94Hz --> 60Hz)" is irrelevant to the 1080i23 frame rate. If your TV/monitor is capable of 23.976 fps, you should be choosing 23Hz as your output for this format. If your TV/monitor cannot do this and is fixed at 60 Hz, then you should either specify 60Hz for 23.976fps material, or leave it at desktop settings, which is what I suspect is going on here. If it is left at desktop settings, then the HD4000 is doing the interlacing for you as default, I believe.
My need is to let my scaler do the interlaced (i) to progressive (p) proccessing. This will mitigate the GPU/CPU load.
You've already shown that your G/CPU is not being stressed at all. Just because you have this scaler, it doesn't mean that you should use it, or that it will provide the best picture quality. If you must use it, however, you have to set up MC to provide an interlaced output for interlaced input. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it should be in theory if your scaler advertises that it is capable of handling an interlaced input to MC. If MC doesn't show this option, you could manage by going to your Intel software and specifying a desktop resolution of 1080i at 23 Hz (you can do this for the testing). Then in MC make sure that yor output is set to desktop settings, or tun off auto-switching altogther. Now your scaler should be doing the deinterlacing, because the video exiting the PC shoudl be interlaced.
2nd : Freeze after x seconds or minutes.
I will receive my DA converter next week. So it will able me to do some audio listening checks. For now, I'm not able to say how the sound is (audio card has only digital inputs / outputs). I will let you know how things are then.
I think your system is overly complicated as it is for testing, and you still haven't told us your complete audio equipment set up and how it's all connected. But I think you are right that we will manage to fix things eventually!

Hi fitbrit,
Audio path is : HTPC (PCM audio flow) --(AES cable-digital)--> Audio SSP (DAC) --> Power amp --> Speakers
But for now I don't have any Audio SSP (will receive it next week).

So you strongly suggest to setup NTSC (29,97/59,94 fps) to 1920x1080x32x23 on JMRC ? My display (Pioneer Kuro) is 23.976 fps capable.
Regarding MadVR, I'm using the highest preset (see below).
CPU does not exceeds 10% of load, GPU does not exceeds 80%/90% of load with this setting. But it s not because I use a sclarer (I currently perfom full video processing on JMRC : Chroma/Image upscale). I'll try what you suggest in order to have an interlaced video outptut for an interlaced video on my HTPC.

They're hard to find.
FWIW, this is an attempt at what I lovingly call "Jim Humor". It is an acquired taste, but you get used to it. ;) ;D
This is the right way to request support.

fitbrit,
I tried to different settings from Windows point of view.
If the Windows display setup is an interlaced format (1080i59, 1080i60, ...), I have a black screen when playing a video on JMRC (whatever the video format).
So I have back Windows setup to 1080p50.
If the Windows display setup is set to 1080p23,24,59,60,... (I tried everything possible formats), I've 30 droped frames /seconds with my concert bluray (1080i59,94). Even if I downgrade Chroma/Image upscale (so it s not a question of CPU/GPU load).
If the video is a progressive format, I've no issue.
Here my settings:

Adhara, I see you're MC is in French. Are you in France, Quebec, or elsewhere?
I'm from France.
I tried to test with some video pattern (available here (http://www.avsforum.com/t/1157287/hd-1080i-test-pattern-to-determine-vector-adaptive-deinterlacing-others-icl-ticker)).
Interlaced video (whatever the format: 1080i - 29.97 fps / 1080i - 25 fps / 480i, 576i) goes out the HTPC in "P" (de-interlaced).
But the frequency matching versus what I setup on JMRC is well respected.
So I'm asking if LaV performs the de-interlacing stuff when using ROHQ.
