Hey everyone,
I am having a lot of problems with DVD and BR playback - the video slows/stutters really bad when watching a movie. It used to only happen during normal DVD's but now it's for every movie I play - doesn't matter. I have gone through almost every post and see a lot of people have this same issue but I haven't been able to find a cure. I have tried a changing the Red October to standard and HQ and checked the video accelerated HW and still no difference.
I have a pretty beefy computer - 9GB/i7/W7 computer so I would assume it has enough power to play the files. I have tried it in both iso and m2ts form and the same result. I took a file to a buddy's house to see if it could be a bad rip and we played it through his Oppo using my external HD and it played perfect, no stuttering what so ever so I know the file is good and it has to do with my computer. I only use this computer for dedicated audio/video so there are no junk/antivirus programs on there. The only caveat I can think of is I store all the movies on a Mediasonic Probox 4 drive box and play the files from there connected both USB 2.0 (can't get the 3.0) to work) and esata in which I have tried both ways and still stuttering.
I need serious help!
Thanks

USB 2.0 may be too slow.
Try transferring a file to a local drive and playing it from there.

Great minds think alike - I am doing that right now as we speak. I've tried through esata as well and I still get stuttering. I use usb 2.0 b/c I sometimes get unmounting issues through esata and usb doesn't do that. I have updated the drivers and firmware with the mediasonic and I still have issues with usb 3.0 (says it needs to reformat the drives). I've posted there and haven't gotten and answer either.
Anyhoo, I will play the local file and report what happens in a little while!
-
Nope, still stuttering.
-
Is your virus checker checking every file you open? It should not.
-
How do I check if it is? I don't have any antivirus program installed.
-
So I moved 2 files (iso & m2ts) of the same movie to a local drive. Played both through jriver - stutter, played the m2ts though a different media player (VLC) and no stuttering. So that tells me that if the movie file m2ts is stuttering with jriver but not VLC then there is something going on with jriver!
Any suggestions!
Thanks

Same problem with Red October Standard?
Under MC Help, please run the benchmark and paste the results here.

That's a good solid mark. Not too slow. Not too fast.

Do you think it might have something to do with my video card when I bitstream to the prepro? When I played the file through jriver it bitstreams to the pre/pro so I had to have that turned on but when I played the m2ts file through vlc I didn't have it go through the pre/pro so it was just the video.
Are there any other settings I should check? I'm going to try and play the file again through jriver but not have it bitstream to my pre/pro to see if that changes anything and report back.
-
Ok, good news! I turned off bitstream (HDMI) off and just played the iso straight to TV and no stuttering! So now that leaves my video card (I think) but I went through most of the settings and couldn't find anything that would seem to fix it, although there are so many settings on the thing I don't really know what I'm looking for.
Otherwise how do I play the file through my Pre/Pro theater without bitstreaming it?
Thanks

This is where I'm at:
Anytime I play the file using HDMI through my pre/pro I get the video stutter doesn't matter the player (jriver or vlc).
Anytime I don't use HDMI and use RGB I don't get the stutter, so I have narrowed it down to video card (ATI Radeon HD 6670 1GB which got unbelievable reviews for a HTPC card), cable or Pre/Pro.
Either way it obviously has something to do with HDMI. Where do I start trouble shooting to find out exactly what it is? Are there any settings I should be looking for? Should I just buy a new Video Card?
Thanks
