Title: sound problems when playing ripped movies

At the start where the studio logos etc are being displayed the video and sound "jerk" (severly) in sync.  This will usually go away by the time i get to the disk menu screen - this always happens.  About 25% of the time when the movie starts the sound and video are out of sync by a second or more.  I discovered that I could get it in sync by moving the slider down to some random point in the movie, letting it start to play, the moving it back to the beginning. I've been using this workaround for a year or more  ::) but since I just built a new HTPC I thought I would try to solve it right.   This problem has existed through a year of MC17 and now continues in MC18.  There are no problems when playing a dvd disk via MC.

Are you using a virus checker that checks every media file every time you open it?

Or is the file on a NAS?

Are you using Red October Std or HQ?

What is the full version of MC that you're using?

hi Jim

1.  Yes, my antivirus says that it scans files as they are "copied opened or saved." (considering where the movies came from, virus dosent seem likely to me)

2. no, they are located on an internal second hard drive (not the boot drive)

3. im using red october

4. it is 18.0.106  (this occured exactly the same on my previous install of 17 - not sure of the version, and on a totally different computer - only the movie hard drive was the same in both computers)

One other thing, the movies play fine on Win 7 media center (media browser)

Just did a virus scan and didnt find anything

Your virus program should not scan every file when it is opened.  Especially not media files.

Just to clarify:
Jim brought up the virus checker, not because he was implying a virus might be causing the issue, but rather that the virus checker itself is the issue. Because the checker is scanning every media file when it is opened, you may well be experiencing problems. Try disabling the virus checker before playback and tell us if it makes a difference.

Id like to buy u guys a beer!  Found the function in the virus software that scans files when opened etc and disabled it.  Started five movies and they all played beautifully.  roy
