I downloaded MC18 yesterday and defined my Import criteria as the entire external HDD that contains all my music forgetting that it is also where my itunes library resides. I now have thousands of duplicates (revealed by using your Wiki instructions for Duplicate Files). It would take me days to "delete" from the MC library. Should I just uninstall MC18 and start all over with a new download and a narrower Import source criteria?

Welcome to the forum. You can use search to find the files, then delete them. Use a "soft" delete (del key only). This removes them from MC's library but not from the disc. Try a few before you do very many, and confirm it's doing what you want.
Another way you could do it is to clear your library (File/Library/Library Manager) and reimport.

If all of the unwanted files are in a specific directory it is very, very easy to make a list of all files with one column list the filepath (I think the Audio->Files default view has it) and then sort by this column (simply click at header at top of column). Select the offending directory and hit delete.
This task should be easy in MC, you just need to know a unique name/bitrate/feature/etc that identifies the unwanted files. Just ask again if still unsuccessful.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I am grateful for this forum and the quick replies. I am also quite excited about using MC18 to listen to my audio collection including 192/24 FLAC via my HRT Headstreamer DAC & Denon AHD-7000 headphones.
