Title: MJ8 Web Media: BBC World News
Post by: chaznet on April 11, 2002, 08:01:45 am
Anyone know if BBC has discontinued the high-speed Windows Media stream that appears in the MJ web media screen?  I used to be able to access it in MJ and Windows Media Player, but for the past few days it hasn't worked in either.  At their site, all I find are RealPlayer 56k links.

I remember seeing a message on the BBC website saying they'd completed their trial of Windows Media but there was nothing more. This was at least a couple of months ago though. I'd love them to move away from RealAudio after all the hassle Real have given me. I tried the RealAudio plug-in for Media Jukebox but it required that RealPlayer remained installed so I gave up. I'd rather go without the Beeb that have Real on my system. And that's quite a sacrifice for someone living out of the country.

Still isn't working, must be gone.  It was the only live broadband newscast I've found.  I noticed CNN now charges a subscription fee for video streams, and it appears you have to use RealPlayer.  Maybe Micrsoft will purchase Real and it'll all be in their player...
