I have, at least one, DVD rip (video_ts/audio_ts, not .iso), that I know of, where there is no video once the playback is started. There is audio and the menus work OK. I can play the DVD rip with TotalMedia Theatre 5 and it doesn't have any such video playback issue. I don't know if this an MC18 issue or not. I don't have MC17 installed anymore so I can't test that. What do you guys need from me to help diagnose/fix this issue?
In the mean time, I would to force MC18 to play just this DVD rip using the external program (TMT5). Is that possible to configure MC18 to default to the internal player for for all but specific folders?
Thanks,
Gary

Are you on MC 18.0.112?
If not, please upgrade and see if it helps.
Thanks.

v.106. When I check for updates (from within MC18), it says there are no new updates. I will download v.112 and manually install it.
Update: v.112 didn't fix the problem.

Could you try Red October Standard in Options > Video?
If that works, what's the DVD? Is it something we could order from Netflix or Amazon to test ourselves?
-
Matt,
It plays correctly with Red October Standard.
FYI, my computer benchmarks at 6542 (Image) and 4633 (Summary/Total).
The DVD is from Heart's Strange Euphoria Box set: http://www.amazon.com/Strange-Euphoria-Heart/dp/B007TBCTJI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358362627&sr=8-2&keywords=heart+strange+euphoria+box+set (http://www.amazon.com/Strange-Euphoria-Heart/dp/B007TBCTJI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1358362627&sr=8-2&keywords=heart+strange+euphoria+box+set)
If you promise to return it in-as-received condition, I could mail it to you for testing.
Cheers,
Gary

Could you try 'Custom' video mode. Base it on Red October HQ, but set EVR as the renderer.
Does that work?
This should tell us if it's LAV Video decoder or the madVR video renderer that's causing trouble.
-
Yes, that worked.

If you have fun tinkering, you could see if switching madVR settings makes any difference. When playing with Red October HQ, you right-click the video to get to madVR.
I had a problem caused by madVR decoding being enabled with DVD. But newer Media Centers should not be affected by this.
Let us know if you learn anything.
We could also try to involve madshi and get him a madVR log.

PM sent.

Thanks for the offer. Having a sample would be appreciated. We can delete it when we're done testing.
Did you get a chance to try tinkering with madVR settings? I'm sorry to even have to suggest this, but I don't know what else to try (other than just telling the program to use EVR for DVD which you've already done).

I took a look. Being a noob, I felt kind of lost; so many settings and possible setting interactions. I feel that I'm in over my head. Sorry.

Hi Gary, I have the sample downloaded now.
I'll follow-up after I get a chance to test.
Thanks for your help.

I haven't been able to reproduce the issue yet, but it might be related to this:

So hopefully you can test the next build when it's out and we'll see if there's still work to do.
Thanks.

I installed MC 18.0.120 last night. I selected Red October HQ and was able to play the DVD (audio & video) from the main DVD menu. But if I select the Song Select option from the main menu, "playback" freezes and the song selection menu is not displaid. If I stop playback and restart it, selecting to Resume, the song selection menu is displaid and I can select a song. It plays normally from there on.

I am now running 18.0.128 and the problem still exists. I recently ripped the Meat Loaf Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra DVD and I have the problem with it too. Switching to Red October Standard is my current work-around.
