Title: TV Record Developement Question
Post by: Beamer on January 20, 2013, 11:39:05 am
Has JRiver considered making the TV record function work as a service to alleviate the need to leave MC running when the PC is put in Standby?

Am I alone in wanting Media Center to enhance its recording facility?

Is everyone happy to simply ensure that they leave Media Center running before they put their PC in sleep mode?

No, you are not alone and this has been requested for quite some time:

This has worked for years.

You simply run Media Server:
Options > Startup > Windows Startup > Media Server

It handles system sleep and resume nicely.

Thanks Matt

To quote Michael Caine "Not many people know that"

Is there good reason not to automatically enable this mode when a recording is programmed?

Inertia.

I agree this should be automatic.  I'll put it on our list.

In the meantime, I have updated the Television topic in the wiki to explain the need to run MC's Server on Windows startup.

Nick.

Hi Matt

This does not work for me :(

I can see Media Server running in my tray but recording's are missed unless I have MC18 present on the task bar.  Could this be an issue with the 129 release?

Is anyone else experiencing the problem?

In case any other soul experiences this wake up issue.
Check that you are not using the command MC18.exe /Close

The Close command also closes JRiver server :o

You can use MC18.exe /MCC 20007, 2 to Exit without closing the server ;)

Well this thread is becoming a little rhetorical  ;D

Seems MC18.exe /MCC 20007, 2 to Exit does not work from Theatre view  :'(

Can anyone advise how to close JRiver from Theatre view without closing JR Server?

Closing Media Center doesn't close Media Server.

You can tell MC to run Media Server at Windows login in Options/Startup.

Jim

When I execute MC18.EXE  /Close it will close media server when executed from theatre view every time and is 100% reproducible.

Did you try it?

It does not close the server when executed from the standard view which may be where your misunderstanding stems from.

Are you running Media Server at Windows login?  It will look like MC18 is running if you look at Task Manager.

Take a look at the wiki topic on Media Server for more information.

I have asked Matt to look into the anomaly. I suspect it is a theatre view bug.

Are you running Media Server at Windows login?  It will look like MC18 is running if you look at Task Manager.

Take a look at the wiki topic on Media Server for more information.

The service starts after a re-boot as intended and is visible in the tray.

Have you tried using MC18.exe /close to exit the program?  You will no longer be able to find the server icon in the tray and of course will miss any recordings you may have set up ;)

The bug also seems to be present in Standard View, my system is rarely used in any view except theater view hence my earlier reference to it.

I have recorded a log file that I believe captures the issue and sent it to support.  Comparing MC18.exe /close log versus closing with ALT F4 there are an awful lot of Destroy commands being sent ?
