Title: How to upgrade?
Post by: jdizzy623 on January 29, 2013, 10:51:07 pm
Probably a dumb question, but here goes...

I was reading somewhere that when you update to the next version (18.xxx to 18.xxx), that you should uninstall the old version first, and then install the newer version. Is that right? Or can you just install the newer version on top of the older one?

Also, the last time I did update, some of my personal setting survived but not all. I had to go back and redo all my video and audio settings which was a bummer.

Is there a way to backup everything so when you reinstall, all setting were as before?

Thanks in advance.

No need to uninstall.  You can allow MC to update for you.  See Help > Update Channels.  Choose Stable or Latest (for roughly weekly updates).  Then Ctrl-J will check for the update, download, and install.

You can manually do a Library Backup.  File > Library > Back Up Library.  But MC already does this automatically (every couple of days, or prior to switching libraries).
